Wow! Was it puréed or are you cleared for real food?

At 9 days out I was still on full liquids... Your stomach is still healing and is numb so you may not "feel" anything. When I started puréed food at the 3 week mark it was only 1/4 cup at a meal measured out as to not put an undo stress on the stomach.

I was cleared for puréed foods at day 6. I made sure everything was very small and to really chew well. I was concerned about the volume c

Sorry, hit send too soon :). My nut actually recommended chili, Beans, etc. I was more concerned about the volume this early out. I'm terrified of getting back to eating the volume I was before surgery.

Did the nut give you a set volume?

My surgical group gave printed instructions

1/4 cup of purée at meal time..

Again the set volume is because the stomach is swollen and numb..

Also if you are on purée you should really do that.

Not being mean it's just that you are so early out.

Wow. I'm 5 weeks out and can eat maybe 1/4 cup of chili (I've eaten so much of it the last week I'm getting kinda sick of it). I was on full liquids for 4 weeks. With the chili I can eat a little more of it than say, turkey lunchmeat. I ate 2 bites of that the other day and was stuffed. I'm hungry again 90 minutes later tho.

6.5 oz does seem like alot, especially the 1st 2 weeks. R u eating slowly, allowing the food to settle before eating another bite? I'm fearful of the "one bite too much" thing and stop right when my stomach does that full signal. Haven't vomited once, and it was a daily occurrance my almost 4 yrs of lapband.

You are not drinking at the same time or within 30 minutes before after? If you are, that could be the reason you can eat 6.5 oz. You are washing the food right through.

I'm 3 months out and 4 oz of solid food is about I can handle.

was the chili watery or thick? Watery chili would be like Soup and turn the solid ingredients in the chili into sliders, where a really thick chili should fill you up a lot faster. A lot of the homemade chili I have seen and eaten is much more watery than canned chili.

I've only eaten really thick canned chili and can't eat more than about 2.5 ounces. I'm 8 weeks out.

I'm glad you posted. I also agree that amount is too much. Probably a good idea to measure since your new tummy is rarin' to go ;)

I think you're right. I'm going to have to measure. I am so used to having big servings. That's how I got here. It's funny it didn't make me sick.

Measuring is key...my doc suggests measuring all you plan to eat (which for me is 1/2 cup at 3 mos out) instead of serving more and planning to stop when full...he believes it is advisable to stop eating before being full, and this has worked well for me. I think I've had one time where I finished my portion and decided to have a few more bites about 15 minutes later...and, guess what, that was the one time I got nauseous...so while my head said I could eat more my body was just fine.
