k8ee 131 Posted August 18, 2013 So I'm going on a plane on Friday and didn't even consider if I couldn't! My question is ... Is it ok to start flying at 3 and a 1/2 months out from surgery? The reason I ask is when I had the lapband I struggled flying and couldn't eat for at least 5 days and could only intake liquid due to swelling. Anyone's experiences and thoughts are most welcome

k8ee 131 Posted August 18, 2013 You will be fine and happy that the seat got bigger (hehe...you got smaller!!) That is definitely one thing I can't wait to try out and I'm sure the person next to me will be happy too now that I will only be in my seat!
CassieWNY 100 Posted August 18, 2013 I have a flight on the 28th and I will be 8 weeks out at that point. My mentor from support group said she flew for 3 hours to Florida when she was 3 weeks out and felt fine. I will seek comfort in not having to sweat out getting the belt on so I dont have to use the "extra" belt. Travel safely and feel good.
gamergirl 4,610 Posted August 18, 2013 I travel a lot as part of my job and asked the surgeon when it was safe to fly again, and he said immediately. He reminded me that many of his patients flew back home right after the surgery and that it was no problem. Have fun!
newat52 1,613 Posted August 18, 2013 I am 5 1/2 months out and have been on 4 trips since. It's been no problem whatsoever except you may want to try and get an isle seat. I drink so much Water I have to pee every hour! I always buy at least 2 bottles of Water for the plane. Just returned home 2 days ago, it was a big moment when I realized I was sitting with my legs crossed with the tray table down! Safe travels!
chrissythemoo 34 Posted August 18, 2013 Originally I was going to travel from London to Prague for my surgery and fly home one week later which was considered safe by the surgeons. Thankfully I inherited enough money to be able to have the surgery in London as I felt so rough in the first 5 days I'm not sure I'd have coped in hotel.
