auntyc 14 Posted August 18, 2013 I am 5 days post-op and on the full liquids but feel hungry! I am not having a problem getting liquids in thankfully. But I feel hungry. I had a half a can of Soup then waited a bit to see if there would be any problems but am ok. Now I feel hunger pains again. Quite frankly I am freaked out about this. According to everything I have read, this should not be so. Not sure what to do a d what is going on. Anybody?
lewis3472 1 Posted August 18, 2013 I am right there with you. I am 12 days post op and I felt the same way as you. What has helped me is making sure that I have Protein in my beverages as well. I use the Kellogg's Special K protein and Fiber packets. It is 30 calories with 5 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber. I can say that it gets a little better with full liquids, but not great. I have ventured off my surgeon/dietian's diet progression by adding in cottage cheese in week two and pureeing some foods to eat. This has seemed to help the hunger as there is more substance to what I am putting in me. Hope this helps some and keep fighting. 1 auntyc reacted to this
mokee 588 Posted August 18, 2013 Have you both tried a PPI? Sometimes acid reflux mimics hunger.
marfar7 1,533 Posted August 18, 2013 After the 1st 10 days, I was starving. And u can't convince me that its acid. I know what hunger feels like. And I take Prilosec. Now that Im on soft foods, its helped. Tho I can. Only eat about 4 bites then Im hungry again in 90 . So im eating about 7-8x a day. It'll get better once u start eating real food again. I promise. 1 auntyc reacted to this
Indigo1991 1,612 Posted August 18, 2013 Stick with what ur doc advises and don't add anything remotely solid this stage. Ur stomach is swollen and still numb at 5 days out. I agree u can feel empty but acid can mimic hunger so get that checked out. I was allowed milk from day 1 so I added fortified milk to my Soup to get additional Protein but also to keep my tummy filled for longer... Might help... But in the great scheme of things, u need to hang in because this phase will pass quicker than it may feel like now - and it will be worth it in the end :-)))))) We have to work with our sleeves, initially takes a bit of time to get that right. Good luck, it does get easier and better, I promise. 1 auntyc reacted to this

I had the exact same thing, a feeling of gnawing hunger that just won't go away. Or really distressed me. Day 7 now and I can say that it got better from yesterday. I still feel hunger at times but not the Godawful gnawing hunger I have been feeling. So, it does slowly get better. Hang in there! x

Think of how few calories we are ingesting. What are you getting? 300-500 calories? I am a bit hungry too and I'm now about 16 days post op. it's weird, I'm hungry but I don't want to "eat" another Protein shake, even though I know it takes care of my hunger. I am now on full liquids for another week so if I get hungry I add some flavorful soup and the warm liquid and rich taste holds me until my next obligatory shake. If you're like me, this is likely your 3rd or 4th week on lower calorie, liquids. It's okay to be hungry. It's normal, if you ask me. Don't freak out 1 auntyc reacted to this
KDNetta127 6 Posted August 18, 2013 Its probably your body adjusting to your new, normal caloric intake. I,too, felt hungry post op. luckily it passes and your body eventually adjusts. Good luck on your journey!!
