July sleevers please check in..

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved july 3, 2013. I have lost 74 pounds but have not lost one pound since May of 2014. I have started jogging 3 times per week, I still write down everything I eat - but can't seem to start the scale moving again. I have been told to not let my calories go below 1100 calories with 80 g Protein. After doing that for 7 months - I have reduced my calories to 900 to see if that makes a difference. I refuse not to get to goal!!!!

So, it's been 1 year and 5 months since surgery and I still feel it's a wonderful thing I decided to do for myself..

Cons: the surgery does not fix mental issues and they are a big part of the journey. At this point (17 months out) you understand that you can still over eat and throw it all away. I am still addicted to sweets and must battle that daily. Not always successful.

Pros: the surgery and the extreme measures of having it spurred me to make life changes. Putting myself first and making my health a priority. I gave myself permission to pay for a personal trainer for 12 months. I made regular doctors appt. for all my preventative issues. Exercise is now second nature and I miss it when I don't go. I know what to do when I get off track (holiday eating....sweets) . I know to track my food, Water and exercise.

My weight has fluctuated by 8 pounds between 97 pounds and 89 pounds lost right now I am at 92 pounds down.

I smile more, don't mind having my picture taken and plan our family vacations around being active.

So my 2 year anniversary is coming up soon. I look back and reflect on life before and after surgery, would I do it again. Yes, I would do it again, because it changed my life in so many ways. Year one I put myself as the priority, year two has been full of distractions that I let get the best of me. I have put 15 pounds back on, and have given in to my demon of eating candy. The surgery is physical and mental and it is for life.

I am getting myself back on track and the weight is starting to come off. Surgery or no surgery being consistent is the key, excercise, food tracking and keeping those trigger foods out of the house.

So how's everyone else doing?post-177471-0-13848400-1435592489_thumb.jpg

Thanks sewin-quiltin for your update! My two year anniversary is in two days and I have also been reflecting on my journey so far. There have been massive highs and some lows, but overall I am in a much happier and healthier place in my life. The person I was 2 years ago seems like a distant memory. Like you I have also gained exactly 15 pounds. I realise that from this point on my success is 100% up to me. I am determined to get the 15 pounds off and continue to live a happy healthy life!

So July 2013 sleevers, it has been 3 years since we had surgery and I thought I would resurrect this thread to see how everyone has been doing. I will start. I got to goal about 10 months after surgery in May 2014. I started at 269 and I lost half of my body weight and hit 134.5 that month. I have been maintaining between 130-140 for the past 2 years. Boy is it tough. The head stuff is way harder now than it was in the losing phase. I have to work on this every single day and I suspect that I will for the rest of my life. I am determined to stay mindful and aware of what I eat in order to stay within my desired weight range. I still come to this site for support and I believe that it has truly helped me keep regain from happening.

Your turn. Let's Celebrate our successes and give support if needed.

Hi Lori I had my sleeve in July of 2013. I started at 230 and my lowest was 155. Now I am at 185 and feeling so down. I feel like the opposite happened. All I think about is eating every few hours. I need to go back to basics and find the strength to make things happen.

It is definitely harder as the years go by. I got to my goal of 135 and maintained between 132-137 for 2 years. In the last 6-8 months, I have gained to 150 and now bounce between 146-150. It is not easy at all to lose anymore and I agree with you, I do feel like I think about eating so much more. I guess it is going to come down to how bad I want to get back to 135. Back to basics sounds like my plan, too.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
