Funny as it sounds, I get confused if my HW was 217 or 219...the 200's almost feel long gone now!

I had a drain that they sent me home with for a week. It doesn't feel like anything, it's just irritating to try and sleep on that side or to try to get dressed without showing it to the world. I was very glad to have it removed.

What to expect...

Bloating

Swelling

Soreness from the operating table

I had back pain with the hospital bed bc of limited ability to move

Some people report shoulder pain bc of gas - walk asap and often to avoid

Dry mouth!!!

Nausea for some

Dehydration is also the number 1 reason people go to the hospital afterwards because its allot of sipping

Can't think of anything else. Best of luck. Best choice I ever made. I'm down 60 lbs. No pre op diet.

My drain was no problem at all...except for the time I accidentally popped open the drain valve...yuck! I had it in when I woke up after surgery and was surprised (my first ever surgery) that I couldn't feel it and it didn't bother me. Anyway, it was taken out on day 2 and I was sent back to the hotel for one more day of recovery.

Although I knew a drain was part of the plan and really didn't like the idea of walking around with something like that stuck in me, it was no big deal at all. My [pre]concerns about it were definitely unwarranted.

I was sleeved 9/3/2013...I have never heard of a drain bag?? What's the purpose?? I only had laparoscopic incisions...6 of them, maybe an inch wide...

...I have never heard of a drain bag?? What's the purpose??...

I'm sure others will jump in here and help with this but I'll share what I think anyway. It seems that no drain, a drain while in the hospital, and a drain that you "wear" home and get removed on your first follow-up visit are all common surgery options. I was in the second group, only having a drain in for two days. For my surgery I think the purpose was two-fold. For one, it did get rid of a lot of extra Fluid from the cavity around my stomach. For people who don't have a drain, these fluids are just absorbed into the body and removed in a more natural way. The second purpose, however, was to provide a second place to check for leaks. When it was time for my leak test and I was forced to drink that LOVELY liquid dye, I think they watched my drain bag for a period of time after that, again as a second check, to make sure none of the dye showed up in it...an indication of a leak.

Anyway...that's my two cents. :)

Ahh okay...I am happy to say I didn't have one. Kinda sounds like too much trouble...and they did check for leaks on me, but I was out!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
