susannah 2 Posted January 13, 2007 Can I ask why does this website frequently get obscene pornographic posts? Is there not a filter to erase it immediately? I find it revolting. If the title is obviously pornographic I skip it, but that is not always the case. What can be done to fix this? Thanks mods. Susannah
Kmarie101 0 Posted January 13, 2007 I've only seen one pornographic post. There's more? I guess the main reason is people like sex and people like talking about sex. And its hard to filter a website with so many different people posting stuff on it all the time.
susannah 2 Posted January 13, 2007 Well, this is a lapband forum. If people want to post on a pornography forum they are free to. It's fine if people like sex, this is not the place for it though. Susannah
Kmarie101 0 Posted January 13, 2007 I never said that this was the place to do it. The only thing I said was that if you want to get rid of it you are going to have a hard to almost impossible time of doing it.
Wheetsin 714 Posted January 13, 2007 I assume you're referring to the SPAM and not the legitimate posts of a sexual nature. No, there's no filter that can stop it. Someone somewhere has the time to register & post. If a filter was in place to stop that, no one would be able to register or post. The best we can do is try and keep up with it. susannah 2 Posted January 13, 2007 Thanks for that Wheetsin. I am not a prude by any means, I just find these posts revolting to be honest. Susannah
Boo 3 Posted January 13, 2007 Thank you! I also find the porno SPAM sickening. I don't open them, but just scrolling over their titles is annoying!
Boo 3 Posted January 13, 2007 Susannah, there's nothing wrong with being a "prude"! What does that mean, anyway? Wholesome??
TamifromAL 1 Posted January 13, 2007 Do ya'll know how to report an offensive message? Just click the red triangle located in the upper right hand corner of each message. Then, just type "spam" in the box that pops up, and send it on to the mods to deal with! Tami
Paulax 8 Posted January 13, 2007 I have wondered the same thing. I too am not a prude, but I am offended by pornography on websites that have nothing to do with porn. I do appreciate how quickly the posts are taken down though.

Because the membership isn't moderated (which means that anyone can join, they don't need to go through an approval process - which, with a site as large as this one, would be a nightmare), porn idiots sign on and post. I think there might be a way to ban their ISPs, so they can't sign on multiple times, but I don't know how to do that. The thing is, they're not really selling porn. They want you to click on their website, so they can steal your personal info or your user ID or your password. And then they use your ID or info to generate more spam. Actually, considering how often some sites get hit (not to mention chat rooms!) I'm surprised there's so little spam posts on this site.
Chris_NJ 9 Posted January 13, 2007 Maybe they got confused between Lapband and lapdance ? LOL :biggrin1:
Wheetsin 714 Posted January 14, 2007 I think there might be a way to ban their ISPsThe problem with banning an ISP is - well - that it bans the ISP. That means anyone who could come from that ISP is banned, because of one bad egg. Imagine if a spammer came from AOL, and we banned it, how many people here for legitimate reasons we'd be denying.
