Pre-op diet - it's making me question EVERYTHING - HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hello brothers and sisters! I NEED HELP! I want to cheat on my pre-op diet so bad I can't stand it!!! I'm starving and miserable and I've only been on it for 3 days. And... I'm second-guessing my decision to have surgery. I quit smoking and drinking for this surgery and now losing food too just seems like too much. I'm already in counseling and working on "my issues" and why I use smoking/drinking/food to escape my feelings. But as I am now 4 days from surgery, it is all becoming so real. I keep thinking of those on this board who say "if you can't do the pre-op diet, how in the heck do you think you will do after the surgery." Maybe that means me??? Do you guys think I should back out, i.e., are these feelings a signal that I'm not ready for this? Or is this just pre-surgery jitters? Any input/encouragement is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Angela

Patience!!!! You can DO THIS!!! Take a step back and think about all you have gone through to get to this point! You are so close and have made so many life changes already to back out. I found that the pre op was very hard, harder than post op. I'm 8 months out and wouldn't change it for the world. Good luck and stay focused you are almost on the losers bench!!!

Angela, pre-op is hard, but you've got to be strong. You can do it. Concentrate on other things....clothes, pets, gardening, whatever. Get out of your house and go somewhere different that has no food memories. This is just mho but I guess I'm one of the folks that thinks if you can't do the pre-op, then your chances of success with wls are maybe less than someone who does struggle through. The thing is, it's harder after surgery. You feel bad, you hurt, you have stalls, you might be nauseous, constipated or have diarrhea. There are lots of great things to look forward to, but it's rough starting out. As many others have said, wls is just a tool and you can gain the weight back. Good luck to you. Stick with it and do something wonderful for YOU.

It's only a few more days. The liquid diet is not as hard after as it is before. Just keep reminding yourself that this is just a few weeks of your life and things will get so much better.

I started my pre-op diet 3 days ago and that is EXACTLY what I tell myself...YOU CAN DO THIS! I find myself on the computer, reading...doing anything but thinking about food! I'm finding this is a mind over matter thing and my MIND WILL WIN!! Chew some gum or take a nice long walk but don't let food WIN AGAIN!! GOOD LUCK!

Liver reduction diet was the WORST. I had to call my grandparents to pray with me every single day. It gets better!! I am six months out now and LOVING IT. Trust me, it's worth it! Despite how hard it is, you've got this! Failure is NOT an option!

Hang in there. I am 3 1/2 months out and down 76 lbs. on my pre op I did cheat. I will admit it. 3days before surgery I said good bye to a fish sandwich at McDonald's and pizza and chip and dip. I do not regret it. I have a new life now not defined by the walls I built with food. Honey I even gave up Diet coke. I was a 2liter a day girl. I found a Water with caffeine in it and I am happy. Go to the light! This will change you for the good. The walls are coming down and the sunlight is coming through!

I don't know why people say "if out can't do pre-op how will you do post-op". There very different. Post of, 3/4 of your stomach will be gone and won't have an appetite for a couple of week. Then you move into the soft foods phase. After your soft foods phase you will have developed a different attitude towards food. Pre-op is more of a head f**k. Keep it up.....it will be worth it!

Just as you can eat around the band you can eat around the sleeve, the surgery changes your stomach not your head.

It's not to early to practice some self control,

I'm on day 4 of the pre-op diet myself. Hell yeah it sucks, but I keep thinking this is just the start. I had a feeling it would get worse before it gets better some time after surgery. I've lost 9lbs so far and i start to think to myself "hey i don't need surgery", but i know that if i have the stomach i do now i can very easily go back to bad habits. This surgery if done right and you follow the plan afterwards is very successful. Keep telling yourself that. It's what I've been doing. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
