pamiam824 13 Posted August 17, 2013 So last night my leg was aching so bad, I was terrified I had a blood clot. I'm 5 and a half months out and just wondering how long we have to worry about that. And does anyone know if we can take aspirin ?

AmyInOrlando 348 Posted August 17, 2013 At five and a half months out, you've been up and ambulating... I don't think you have to worry about blood clots at this point, unless you have a history of DVT's. Then I would call my Doc. Before surgery I was taking a coated Aspirin 81 mg. My Doc said to wait till I'm a month post-op before restarting it. No Ibuprofen. Tylenol is OK. The only NSAID I can take is Celebrex.

BookWorm 87 Posted August 17, 2013 I have a blood clotting disorder and have a history of blood clots which is now managed by Coumadin. What I've learned is to just have it checked out. They will do an ultrasound. One thing to think about, Vitamin dificiancies will also give you leg pain. Check your potassium levels. 1 stamour1 reacted to this

BookWorm 87 Posted August 17, 2013 I have Factor V Deficiency. I'm sorry, I don't know anything about your disorder. My blood lacks a thinning agent and stays thicker then most people's.

BookWorm 87 Posted August 17, 2013 Yes; however, a hematologist clearance is required with a potential for longer hospital stay.

Noirsunflower 36 Posted August 17, 2013 I also have factor V, and was sleeved on August 7. They gave me the option to take a 81mg Aspirin but I didn't. I have been taking lovenox injections twice a day since surgery. The main prevention of DVT is waking and not sitting or riding to long. Best of luck to you! hw-272, preop diet day 1-267, day of surgery- 255, 1 week post op
kim2002 140 Posted August 17, 2013 I actually have a blood clot in my arm they discovered 6 days post op! My doc put me on aspirin 325 mg with a PPI to protect my stomach!! But even without a blood clot, I can take most NSAIDS Kim
HeatherL 40 Posted August 26, 2013 How did they discover your blood clot in your arm? What were your symptoms?
kim2002 140 Posted August 26, 2013 The arm my IV was in started hurting about 5 days post op, so painful you could hardly touch it....right around the IV site!! It was a little red and a lot swollen!! So I went to my pcp and they thought it was cellulitis! I asked for An ultrasound just to make sure it wasn't a clot.....family history of blood clots (I'm also an X-ray tech, so I knew what to ask for) and that's the symptoms and how they found it:) the pain is much better, I'm 18 days post op now! I have a follow up ultrasound in a month!!! HTH Kim
