So I Am 5 Weeks Out And I'm Just Wondering How Much People Could Eat At This Point? I've Had People Tell Me On Other Forums That They Could Only Eat About Half An Egg At This Point. I Myself Can Eat A Full Egg....But I'm Scared To Eat Feeling Like I Must Be Doing Something Wrong. I Am Afraid To Eat More Than A Few Bites. Has Anyone Else Experienced The Same Feelings?

I'll be 4 weeks out on Tuesday & I haven't tried an egg yet....but I can tell you what I've been able to eat, to see if our eating coincides? I've had chicken nuggets...can only eat 2. I have eaten pieces of cut up grilled chicken breast (bought at costco, already cooked, just need heating), & I can only eat 4 pieces of the cut up chicken & I had a 1/3 cup of over cooked cauliflower. I made a grilled ham & cheese for my son & he couldn't finish his sandwich & since I had nothing prepared for my lunch, I ate the 1/4 remaining of his sandwich & I was stuffed. I can eat 1 whole greek yogurt, or a 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes, 1 package of cream of wheat, or 1 package of oatmeal (& in both I mix in about 3 tablespoons of no sugar added apple sauce for flavor.)

So how does that sound in comparison to what you can eat?

For me , 5 weeks out was 2 ounces of canned wild salmon (trader Joe), 1 scrambled egg, 1 ounce of very chewed chicken or a Protein Shake. Still kind of transitioning from puree to solid at that point. Calories were low: 300- 600. I was not able to eat a lot at that time. Eating was still not that much fun and kind of painful. Things got better by month 3 and slowly improved until able to eat 900 at month 5-6. Keep at it. It gets better, you can be assured! Try to do your best every day. :)

You are fine! I was able to eat a whole egg when I was at your stage. Don't worry about what other people can and can't do. Your tummy has it's own limitations and just because you can eat a little more than another person means nothing. My tummy can eat more on some days than others. This to is normal. Hang in there you are doing great!! :)

Just starting week 5.

I can eat between half a cup and 3/4 cup of food in general. Solid Proteins, maybe 2oz, they feel very heavy in my stomach. I cannot eat eggs yet, for some reason they feel like I am eating glass, no idea why.

Takes a good hour to drink a 12oz shake.

Just started solids at that point maybe a few teaspoons of chili or tuna couldn't even et n egg still taking in about 4oz of protien drink 3 times. Day a good quality one 20 grams each. Remember Water and to get the Protein that is what is going to help the weight come off. Oh your body will tell you your limit and it could cause hiccups and a tight feeling

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
