Got my approval and NERVOUS!

Recommended Posts

So today I got my approval for surgery! Surgery date is Sept 16th.. I'm so excited and nervous all at the same time. I've never had surgery before and I've never been under anesthesia. (Which is what I'm more worried about) how did everyone deal with there nerves?

Congrats! I wasn't nervous at all, actually thought there was something wrong with me because I wasn't nervous. I knew I was making the right decision, and am so glad that I did it. Good luck to you, you'll get past the nerves and be on the loser's bench soon!

Congratulations on the surgery date! And anesthesia is not bad at all. I had to go under for my gall bladder. They told me to count backward from ten and I don't remember getting past 6.

I didn't get nervous until that morning. When I was in the pre-op room, the nurse came in to tell me they were taking me. As she was talking she giggled and said that the anesthesiologist (who i had already met and didn't see follow her in) just gave me a dose to put me under.

Turns out he saw how nervous I was and did an awesome thing because I don't have to let my mind do the "what if" thing all the way to the OR...I don't remember leaving my sister on the room, lol!

I am positive you will do amazing. Just follow the directions to the hilt...trust the Dr. and the plan!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
