Help:Biking for the sensitive rump

Recommended Posts

I have been wanting to bike for along time. It actually has been ALONG time since the last bike ride. I remember having a 10 speed in middleschool, So when I went looking for bike's I had found a great looking bike, only the seat dug into my rump and the pain was horrid. Does anyone know of a bike that can support alot of weight and have a bigger seat?:help:

Most stores that carry bikes (Target, etc.) will carry wider, gel-filled seats that really do make all the difference.

And they make Bicycle shorts that have a thin foam padding in them around $20.00 works well also as your peddling your bike around wear a helmit it really saved my life one night.

There is no way I could peddle my a$$ around town without my gel seat!!! Hopefully this spring/summer I will actually be able to ride, and look around. I had tunnel vision on it last summer---I did not want anyone to see me so I refused to see them! Hopefully that will be better this year!!!

:) I hate boring exercise and biking gives me a stimulation you can't get in a gym. There is scenery and destination. You can bike to and from a point. It is also not traumatic on your joints. :clap2:

This is what I can tell you about biking and the sore butt syndrome...It really hurts but it goes away! Do not be tempted by wide seats. They make the pedaling less efficient. There is a reason those pros have tiny seats. The seat covers with gel help but can also be a pain when they slip off. After a few weeks of biking regularly the sore butt is gone. There is also gel seated shorts you can get but not easy to find in large sizes.

Get online or go to a bookstore and read up on beginner biking. That is what I did. Good luck! Oh, and if it's been awhile...it's not true you never forget! I scared the heck out of my family when I got back on one after years. I had forgotten the balance and the steering! =)

I agree that a comfortable seat makes all the difference, especially in the beginning. Don't skimp! If it makes the difference between your biking and your NOT biking, spend what you need to on the comfortable seat. You don't need a new bike, you need a new SEAT.

I know exactly what you mean about the seats, i used to cycle a lot when younger but last time I tried it was so painful. I found this link by accident and have hung onto because of my last experience, I have not seen the larger seat before and thought it was good idea until butts getting a but smaller

It helped me the most with biking was taking my mind off of it. No matter how much gel is in the butt..its still gonna hurt. I bought a radio to go on my handlebars..i didnt want to wear headphones bc then you cant hear someone shouting out warnings etc. i also got an attachment for my bike that lets my dog run beside me...totally helps

I bought one of those grandma style seats with gel butt cheek inserts. I'm pretty sue that's the technical name for them. :) Or you could always strap a thick towel around the seat. I'm sure that wouldn't have anyone wondering what the heck was up...

Did you buy the seat? it looks better than any one I've seen. I can't bike for more than 10 minutes, the pain is unreal.

oh my gosh - i know what you mean - I absolutely love biking but i have tons on 'junk in my trunk' and really felt your pain. The gel seat and padded bike shorts (which look horrid on me lol) help but it also gets better with time on the bike - eventually you adjust a bit and it doesn't hurt so much.

Ya see, I have lots of belly but no ass, so the seats hurt like crazy LOLOL my poor butt bones. Lets face it folks, no matter what your stackin back there, those bike seats are murder.

I have a gel seat, still not happy (hurts too much) but I did get a dorky padded sheepskin cover for it (trust my kids, it is *not* cool! :) ) that is awesome- totally much more comfortable. I don't care what people think anymore anyhow... comfy matters!

I'm not an outdoor biker, but I love my spin bike. I have a narrow gel seat cover that's made by schwinn (who also made my spin bike). I think that's the key to getting a good fit with a cover -- buy one made by the same manufacturer. They tailor their products to work with their other products.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
