6 weeks post op and down 44lbs (woohoo!). I've officially been cleared for all and any exercising, but I have no idea what to do and how much. I've only been walking thus far. I'm getting a gym membership next week and would like some suggestions about how to maximize weight loss while minimizing my loose skin! I have pretty good stamina and strength, and I'm 23 if that matters.

Suggestions please! :)

When I started my doc told me cardio cardio cardio...it burns the fat to allow for the muscle growth. I started with small time ont he elliptical and worked up to 30 mins after about 2 or 3 weeks. Now I am at 55 mins ont he elliptical and I do a Tae Bo video on days between. My NUT has a special scale that measure body fat and muscle mass and I have lost 35 lbs of fat and gained 1 lb of muscle. NO weights yet, but elliptical and Tae Bo (which gives a little resistance training). I think weights will help with loose skin, but you have to burn the fat to replace it with muscle so that is why cardio is so important. Some gyms offer a personal trainer for like the 1st visit or something. Maybe you could talk to them about how to get started. If you do a lot of weights at 1st you will build muscle but there will be fat on top of it....that doesn't sound pretty.

I was sleeved 4/15/13 and down 56 lbs since surgery.

Good luck!

Thanks! My birthday is next month so I was thinking of asking for my husband to pay for a few sessions with a personal trainer! They are like 80-100/hour so it's not something I'd normally spend on myself!

I dont know what your interests are, but for cardio you can try zumba its fun and not so monotnous as the stationary bikes or treadmill or eliptical, and all the zumba instructors I have seen have lean abs and a great ass, so to me all bases are covered. lol Enjoy your birthday!!!!!

I enjoy watching the Zumba classes at my gym. And for the record, the skinny minnies are always the MINORITY. ;)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
