My doc says that you have to swallow in small doses. That should help.

I'm 2 days out && I am starting to regret it...this has to be better. I'm trying hard to not be negative but I did to feel better to be healthy not to yucky:-( I'm torn on how I feel right now.

i am 2 days out too, and yes i do get that gas pain with every sip. my doctor told me this is very normal as the stomach is heavenly swollen now so very very limited in its size. don't worry i am sure this will be much better once the stomach is fully recovered 3-4 weeks. don't regret and stay positive

I get a pain as well when I take a drink but for me I think it's cause I'm so thirsty that I take too big of a drink. At first it hurt really bad I found out that cold Water hurt worse than room temperature Water, maybe that might help, just a thought.

You are not alone. Plenty of gas pain here. Day 1 i couldn't stop thinking about what I had done to myself voluntarily. Regrets but now I'm in the comfort of my own home/bed and I feel much better. Make sure you stay mobile, it helps to move the gas.

It gets a little better, I just make sure that the liquid is as far back in my throat as possible before I swallow, this prevents excess air going down. Your stomach is much smaller (and swollen right now) and doesn't have extra room for air; make each drink count! :)

You are not alone!! I'm day 2 post op, and experiencing the gas pain too... I find that smaller sips help and room temperature minimizes the pain too... It will get better as the days go by and we are drinking more often... I just tried a sugar free Popsicle tonight , and surprisingly enough I tolerated it really well plus it was a nice cool treat! Hang tough, it will get better!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
