UHC Choice plus-won't cover?

Recommended Posts

:clap2: I just found out through care coordination they no longer accept clinical paperwork in the mail. It should be faxed directly from your doctors office to them! Have your Doctors office call care coordination at 877-842-3210 M-F 6a-6p to get your approval or denial. Same day in most cases. Care coordination stated it was too much of a "paper trail" with the mail ins. I should here something in 24 hours. I hope this helps someone else as well.

801-567-5499 Predetermination fax. UHC received my paperwork on the March 3. I just feel that since they used to recieve them via mail, they should have contacted Care Coordination, given the information and had care coordination to contact my doctor to tell them to fax it instead. I have just wasted 6 weeks.

I swear, you get a different answer every time you call UHC. I've called several times to make sure I have done everything I can to get this approved, and each time I've called, I get different answers. One time this representative I spoke to actually came out and said "I can't help you".....how can she not answer a simple question??!!!

I have my consults with the psych, the nutrionist, and the surgeon at the end of the month, then they will be submitting to insurance for approval. I hope all goes well, but it's hard to keep from getting discouraged when you keep getting different answers.

Hi everyone, I'm new and also have United Healthcare Choice Plus. I called today to see if I'm qualified and was told no. That Whole Foods didn't elect to cover any Morbid obesity services, diets etc.. I asked the rep. about if I need a new knee would they cover that? yes of course...I'm 32 and I'm just under 5 feet and weigh 199... My mother was banded in February and has dropped 30 pounds. I really need this and have tried a zillion diets etc....lost 50 with Atkins but, it's back! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

they told me no at first also - So I went to the Hospital where the lap band group is that do the insurance contacting and my Insurance told them I was covered - So instead of u calling have the Gastric division that you are going though call 4 you. They approved me within 5 min and I have UHC Choice plan - I was banded on 4/17/07

Well, I got an email from my surgeon's office this am. They said they submitted to UHC on sat (21st)

So I guess I will give them a couple of days and I will be calling them to see how things are coming along. Will post and let you know.

Good luck

Unfortunately,my doctors office is moving to a new location this week so I won't be able to schedule my GI and nutritional class (which are both their pre-requisites) until Monday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
