roundy 14 Posted August 16, 2013 Has anyone else had a Hiatal Hernia repaired and it is too tight? I am just over one month post op and i cant eat anything except for Jello, pudding, or yogurt. Every time i try to eat anything it goes down and comes back up. I also feel like food gets stuck in my throat. I have had to go into the hospital twice now due to dehydration because when i try to eat anything i get sick and can't tolerate any liquids. They tell me that the Hernia repair is still "swollen" and it will take time for me to be able to eat and the doctor moved me back to liquid stage for a few more weeks. If anyone else dealt with this how long did it take before you could eat? Im so depressed about not being able to eat.

nsquared 232 Posted August 16, 2013 I had a hiatal hernia repair during my sleeve surgery. They found the hernia during my pre-op endoscopy. I never knew I had it and post-op it didn't bother me at all. I am not familiar with the feeling you describe. Hopefully, someone else knows. Good luck. AmyInOrlando 348 Posted August 16, 2013 I had my surgery 2 weeks ago and I had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time. The first week was rough, but now I'm able to drink liquids easily as long as I take tiny sips. Greek Yogurt and SF pudding go down easily too. I don't start solid food for another 2 weeks, but I don't anticipate any problems. Initially it felt like there was a golf ball in my throat, and I had shortness of breath and chest pain, but that's mostly resolved now. I'm going back to work on Monday, so I hope my endurance improves over the next three days.
