I could eat a horse today!

Recommended Posts

I am 8 weeks post-op. Why are there days when I have to make myself eat because I am never hungry and then there are days when I feel like I am hungry the whole entire day?

Are you taking your acid reducer? If not, this will create a feeling of hunger.

Are you taking your acid reducer? If not, this will create a feeling of hunger.

My Dr. told me to quit taking it at my 6 weeks appointment. Why would I not feel this everyday if that was the cause. I have basically been eating the same things for the last 2 weeks. Yogurt, deli meat, string cheese, Protein for supper with veggie. Sometimes I eat a few bites and feel so full and then sometimes I could eat a horse and not feel full.

I don't know about anyone else but somedays when I am really hungry, it's because I'm stressed, I used to eat when I was stressed out. Now I take an extra serving of a dense protein(beef, chicken or turkey) with me to work. If I eat that I just can't eat anything else. What's funny is deli meat doesn't seem to have the same affect, don't know why. I get full quickly with regular roasted Proteins and then I realize I'm trying to eat my stress. Don't know if this would work for anyone else but it works for me.

I still take an acid reducer each day. If I don't I get stomach pains that feel very much like hunger. I know there are quite a few people who have the same problem. You are lucky if this doesn't bother you. :)

I had a hiatal hernia repair when I had gastric sleeve surgery and had horrible reflux before surgery. My dr. said going into surgery that repairing this would eliminate the need for the acid reducer medication. I am doing great with the reflux. My stomach has not growled today. I just felt the need to eat.

I'm still hungry a lot...and still struggling with Snacks. My NUT tells me NO snacking and only 6 oz of food, 4 times a day. I don't know how it's possible, but now when I snack I feel guilty :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
