Sorry to hear that. Don't give up yet. Have you looked into Care Credit or MedicalFinancing? I hear both are good options and MedicalFinancing has a program called No Patient Left Behind for those of us with not so perfect credit. Good luck to you. Its not over just yet!!!

I went to Mexico and had it done on May 22nd. I'm down 47 pounds!!!! It was $4650. My insurance doesn't cover any type of WLS & I couldn't afford to self pay in the states. Good luck to you!!!

Get a lawyer. For real. Theres weight loss surgery lawyers who fight your insurance for coverage.

If your insurance covers other things like diabetes etc tgey cant exclude coverage for obesity related treatment.

A few hundred for a lawyer is hella cheaper than thousands for self pay or mexico.

Also then your follow up will be covered.

allons-y

I, too, have insurance that have WLS as an exclusion. I talked to my surgeon's office to see if there was any hope of getting it approved despite the exclusion. The woman I talked to said the only way they have had any success is if the insurance policy is "self-funded." So find out from your HR folks if it's a self-funded policy and see if you have any luck that way.

Mine was, alas, not self funded :(.

I haven't had my surgery yet. However, my Doctor's office said that they would use my insurance to cover the before and after appointments. And the actual surgery itself will be financed.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
