Foods you cant have again

Recommended Posts

So I had my surgery on 26th of April 2013. I stayed on liquids only for approx 3 and a half months (till mid august) because even just the smell of cooked food made me so nauseous. If I tried to eat I would just vomit after the second bite.

In those 3.5 months though I did eat a lot of watermelon which I was very proud of. My consultant however didn't share my sentiments. He said "of course you can eat watermelon easily....it's mainly water!" Hehe

So after the 3.5 months I started by eating scrambled egg. Just one a day mind you....couldn't handle much more than that. I'm eating a lot more variety of foods now but still have trouble with red meat.

I absolutely love fish at the moment. Very moist and chewed heavily before swallowing. Also love eating soft chicken with salad. My salad of choice consists of just lettuce and cucumber with lots of lemon on top. Thank god I don't have problems with reflux and have heard from a lot of people that lettuce can be difficult but I love it!!!

Orange juice and anything sour does not do well with my sleeve. Other than that, I've done good with everything else. I still havnt tried hotdogs though, I'm scared to! Lol I'm 6 months out.

What about popcorn? Will we be able to eat popcorn again?

2 years out and i eat popcorn at movies but in moderation. it shrinks down to nothing so you can get in more than is a portion size. its a be careful. it can shrink down but the cals/fat/carb content doesent. i only have so many carbs on my daily meal plan so its def an over for me on plan. number one thing i cant have is any type of carbonation. just cant do it and dont want to ever take the risk. but even now i can only have 2 sips - i will order if i have a craving have my two sips get full and dump it.

Question for ALL of you who posted on this topic...Would you say that post ok eating is a bit of a trial & error as each person had to see what they can tolerate? So depressing to know ther isnt anyway to know in advance of either getting sick or having those Gosh awful "slims" that many of you speak of :-(

It's all trial and error really. I noticed I'm more in tune with my body though, it will definitely let you know if you eat something that doesn't agree with you.

There is absolutely nothing that I can never eat again. Grapes, citrus, pineapple, soda, sesame seeds, fibrous veggies, alcohol -- all things that were restricted for me for a time, but once I was fully healed, no issues whatsoever. The only thing I don't eat is any wheat products.. but that's due to an intolerance unrelated to the sleeve.

I agree. You def need to listen to your body. I'm learning to eat slowly and I'm very picky over what I eat to make sure I'm getting all the right things in.

I've been keeping a timer and waiting about 2 mins between eat bite. It gives my body a chance to feel full.

And you experiment. Just because at The moment bread Pasta n rice don't sit well doesn't mean I'm not going to try it again. But I'll try it in the privacy of my own home

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
