Foods you cant have again

Recommended Posts

What foods can't you have again after the sleeve? I've heard grapes because of the skins. What other and why please.

None as far as I know but eat person has their tolerances. The thing with the sleeve is that your stomach is kind of like "wtf?" for the first few months. By about 6 months, its figured things out and by 12 months or so, it's regained its grinding efficiency which is why people can generally eat more the further out they go.

I must be weird because popcorn sticks with me pretty good. I can eat more of it because it compresses so well, but man, a cup of popcorn (if that) keeps me full for awhile. And it makes me poop. lol

Steak, I have never had a problem with but I did not tackle it until month 3. At about 10 weeks, my stomach just kind decided it was cool with its new smaller size and I was able to eat a lot more than right before that and things started digesting faster. So I haven't had any problems. Some people describe this as what happens usually around 6 months but I am nearing that point and everything seems stable so it must have happened early for me.

Well I should weigh back in.. So at 39 days or barely 7 weeks, I've started to try many things. Still scared of grapes, rice and asparagus for sure. But tried things like carbonated drinks, popcorn, etc. Only been sick 3 times and it was from a shake, Soup, and eggs. Go figure. Thank goodness no slime so far… But just topped 50lbs lost and I’m watching everything but basically can’t eat much. It’s kinda good really. I’ve read each of your post and have heard the opposite of what seems like each of your post So much information out there…. So confusing sometimes. My doctor did say after 6 weeks, eat what you think you are big enough to eat, but really try to stay away from x, y, & z. So I’ve done what I heard was the best. Eat Protein first, then vegetables then carbs.. Ha, I can barely get the Protein down at a meal but I feel awesome so guess that can’t be too bad. Now if I could only get enough protein in without the shakes as I HATE them with a passion. (Buts that’s a question/statement for another forum)

Thanks for all the advice as I’m looking to each of you for different answers and past experiences.

i am 9 weeks post op today. very sweet things makes me feel icky if its more than a bite. i ate a small piece of very dark chocolate today and i was fine. i had a small amount of rice noodles and broccoli about 10 days ago and it did not sit well. but i am not supposed to have either just yet anyway! lol

eventually i can eat anything, except my nut says but very soft doughy bread. this can actuaaly get stuck in the stomach. i can live without tgat as long as i can have toast eventually! i miss rice too. and raw veggies. roght now, just focusing on getting inthe Protein. i couldnt tolerate the shakes and discovered Protein Bars instead. i eat half at a time. met rx Protein drinks mixed with milk work for me too. just not the shakes. ugh.

I'm preop, but LOVE reading all the posts from you post op'ers...I am scared to DEATH about being so sick,so I am going to try and stick with the regime my NUT has advised, very nervous about not being able to tolerate the Protein Shakes, ect especially while on the full liquid diet for 30 days. Welp I guess it's par for the course...just hope one-day I can have a small glass of wine again. Must admit reading all the postoperative posts is a little overwhelming, but helps with preparing for the mental part of adapting to the sleeve. Going on line to order the book Emotional First Aid Kit, now ;-)

At 5 months out, I can eat most things (except what's on my forbidden list - alcohol, gassy liquids) but choose not to eat certain things such as rice, bread etc. I still find that if I forget to really chew food fully, it can be uncomfortable but that's my fault, not the food's. For me, it's not so much about what I eat, it's about how I eat and mindful eating certainly helps avoid discomfort.

I have an occasional glass of wine. I've had beer too but it is very filling, like eating something. The feeling passed quickly though. The only foods I have trouble with are Pasta, rice, beef and some breads. I also find that high-sugar foods make me feel queasy and strangely the Quest bars do that to me too.

pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

Do u feel the beer faster than before surgery. And how long after surgery did u wait to start drinking again. Im asking because my sister 21st bday coming up and i want to have a drink or two

I'm 18 months post op and 1 beer gets me tipsy. I used to drink heavily on occasion but now I just avoid it. Sugary drinks are just too much too.

I'm about 7 weeks post op and I'm finding that rice does not sit well at all (like a lead weight actually) Pasta makes me slime (doesn't bother me not a huge pasta eater) and red meat is hard to digest at this moment

these things are all off limits to me until 6 months post op. for good reason!

I'm not missing them either. I tried them once because they were on my list of foods o introduce. But they really don't make me feel good at all

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
