Anyone have advice? Ice? Heat?

I would try a cold compress. If it continues to be painful talk to your Dr. My large incision hurt for quite a while but it wasn't too bad.

pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274; 4 month post-op 266.2; 5 month post-op 262.6

Try a heating pad. It helped me a lot.

If you put hot or cold do it for short periods of time 10-15 mins. You don't want to irritate the area. If any if the incisions start to look more red or warm to the touch. Call your doctor right away. If it is in middle of the night go to ER. It can be the start of an infection. Also do the above if they start to hurt more. I mean real sharp pain that has increased over a short period of time. I am an RN n top of a sleever 5/1/13. Just be careful. Don't want anything else to happen after having surgery !

It's a burning. Not from the site by right by it. (Which is numb to the touch) They told me it will go away more when i walk, and to just keep talking.

Just a thought ------ If you do cold or hot compresses, make sure the incision is kept dry-- in other words, don't let ice condensation get the area wet. You do NOT want that skin Water logged.

Hang in there -- it won't hurt forever!

I took my binder off a kettle bit today to let the incision sites breathe ( had sleeve done on Monday) none of them are painful. Walking helps release the gas and that could be causing discomfort ..

Thanks everyone. I'm just overwhelmed with new bodily sensations and afraid of every little pain. It's my first surgery, lol.

It was mine too and with any luck it will be the only one! FYI get baby wipes that first bowel movement is like an infants tar bowel movement and is not easy to clean up without baby wipes.

Disgusting I know but was never happier I have them handy for the toddlers in my family when they come over.

My first day in the hospital was tough. I found I can't have morphine and I was very nauseated. The gas pain was the worst! They gave me a disposable heating pad for the pain. That worked and so did resting. The second day and a shower was wonderful. I really did not find the extreme right side pain go away until the third week. I'm three months post and finally getting lots of energy :) hang in there!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
