I come here for support, not for name calling---center of attention or total failure----it's all the same. We have all been failures managing our weight, and we're all trying to find our way. Let's be humane to each other. If you can't be humane, take it to the Rants and Raves section, please!

KBATTAL: Im not going to react to your "scientifical" posts.

I guess you know nothing about CZCECH rep. but my surgery have done the doc who invented the laparoscopical way of putting the band in...so I guess Im better educated to know not to fill myself.

If you see yourself as failure thats ok I dont see myself that way.

good luck to you.

Hi, I am going to try and change this chain if that is ok. I need some help and was hoping to get a few answers. I just got my second fill and the restriction is very tight. I have the VG band and am filled to 5.2 right now. I cannot swallow liquid in the morning and very little in the afternoon. Is this normal? does it last forever? will I be able to eat again???

Any tips would be helpful.

Thanks

I think once threads start moving in a certain "direction" they should be deleted. This is not the place for this type of behavior.

It is very normal. VG band filled with 5.2 has almost the same openning (stama), with the shorter band (10cm, or 9.75) unfilled. Some people reacts this way. Your stomac will adopt to changes in 1-2 weeks, you just need to be patient and stay away from solid foods in this period. If you vomit (pbing) , it is not good. Try not to vomit, just be calm, if the problem continues more than 2 weeks, I believe it wont, you might want to unfill .5-1 cc.

In the mean time. you might want to drink warm Water, or tea, coffea before you eat , warm Water opens the passage, and warm amd hot liquids are easy to go through the passage. For added bonus, you will lose 5-8 pounds in the process.

I agree, we have better things in life than attacking and mean to each other. I am open to criticism, i would like to hear what other people say, but my decisions are not based what other people say, afterall why are we educated?

I still think it is not wise to do fills at home. I felt like I could do it, because I had sufficient information.

Hi Terrimck.... I think if you are having a difficult time swallowing liquid EVER you may be too tight. Have you called your doc? What does he (or she) say?? You need to be careful that you don't get dehydrated. I certaily wouldn't wait 2 weeks foir this to get better. I would say if it's still not better by today you should be calling your doc ASAP.

Just my 2 cents.

Drewslou, do you have a VG band?. A VG band filled with 5.2 has the same tightness as a 4cc band without any fill. There are too many references to prove that. Most people do not even see any difference at that level of fill. In Terrimck's case, she might have a thicker stomac, but still a VG band is very accomadating, I am sure she will be fine soon. She only needs to eat slow and chew well for a while. Nothing out of ordinary. She does not say she can not drink Water, if she can not drink any Water, ofcourse she should contact the doc immediately, no question about that.

I STRONGLY beg to differ. Misinformation can be very hurtful to people. She stated in her post that "I cannot swallow liquid in the morning and very little in the afternoon. Is this normal? does it last forever? will I be able to eat again???" Sure sounds to me like she has a bit of a problem. Perhaps you should go back and re-read her original post.

I have to ask... where are you getting this information? A VG band filled with 5.2 has the same tightness as a 4cc band without any fill. I have searched everywhere and even asked my doc and he said an empty band is an empty band no matter which type it is. The size of the band has little to do with the restriction level... just means the band is bigger because the stomach is bigger and requires more saline to fill it.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to argue about EVERYTHING. I do think you need to be very careful about the advice you are giving though... make sure you state your opinions as such and not fact.

Just my 2 cents.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
