I am currently doing my 6 month medically supervised diet. I had my first check-in with my doctor on 8/13/13. I gained two pounds. Ugh! This 6 month diet is an insurance requirement. My question is: what is my insurance company expecting from me during this diet? Do they want to see that I can stick to a diet and lose weight to prove that I can handle the post-op diet, or are they just confirming that I cannot lose weight on a diet? My diet consists of 1800 calories a day and I'm not even coming close to that. I've also been walking/running on a regular basis. Please advise on what the insurance company wants to see. Thanks!

Sometimes it is tough to say what they are looking for. I am forever a skeptic of insurance companies and I believe they will look for any reason to decline a claim, regardless of the true benefit to them or the end user. Your doctors office should be able to tell you what it is they expect. Do not let this discourage you. Do the best that you can and let the chips fall where they may. Any steps you can make pre-op is a step in the right health direction.

I also had a six month diet requirement. The person I spoke with at my insurance company stated they wanted to see six months of failed diet and exercise medically supervised. I lost a total of 5 pounds during my six months. I was approved within a week of sending the information to the insurance and am scheduled for surgery Oct 7. Stay with it and good luck.

My insurance wanted to see success. They wanted to see I could follow instructions and that I was mentally ready for the big changes to come. I lost weight during mine but that was overall.

There were months when I was up and some when I was really far down. Just keep tracking and doing what you're supposed to do. Even if overall you don't lose and do gain, if your paperwork (meal plans, etc) show you have been following the rules, you'll be seen as a successful candidate for surgery.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
