New to vertical sleeve talk

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!! I'm one month post op tomorrow 8/15 and decided I really needed to join this site because I am really struggling. I find myself hungry and nauseous all at the same time...just the thought of taking my nighttime meds and having to crush them and mix them up with liquids...I'm starting to feels a little defeated drinking Water is painful because of how slow it goes down and I want to eat but nothing feels right...

Welcome! Sorry to hear about your current frustrations. :( I'm getting sleeved this Monday, so I can't speak to how to best deal with those, but I just wanted to welcome you to the site! I'm sure you'll feel better in no time!

Welcome to the site. My nutritionist says there is no real hunger, that the hunger is in your head. In surgery, the part of the stomach that "gets hungry" is removed. I don't know what to say about the nausea. Are you eating very, very slowly, chewing your food very, very well, eating very, very small bites and eating only small amounts at any given time? Are you sure you still need to crush your meds? I only had to do so for about three weeks. If you need to, mix the crushed meds with applesauce or pudding, something with flavor. I took one pill that was very bitter when crushed. It was vile tasting no matter what I mixed it with. I just had to buck up and take it anyway. It is only for a short time. In fact, all of your difficulties are only for a short time. Hang in there and give us updates on your situation.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
