Ok, I read things on here about the physc assessment/evaluation, and I am worried now. I don't do good at job interviews because I get so nervous and people on here are comparing the assessment with a job interview. I am not depressed or on meds for anything nor have I ever been. Im just afraid my being nervous will make me answer questions wrong!! My assessment is 2hrs long and that's scary enough. I also read that they are there to weed people out, like find reasons to not qualify you. OMG! This is crazy to me. any thoughts and comments and helpful hints are wanted here! Have you gone? how long was yours? what were you asked? how should I answer? please feel free to leave any tips or remarks!! Mine is coming up on the 28th!!

It really is to make sure you know what you are getting into. This is life changing, permenant process, do you have support.

The reason it is likely so long is most include a questionaire of true/false questions that ask have you thought of hurting yourself, do you think about self harm, how likely are you to over report your symptoms, etc

Mine was 2 hrs, They gave me 45 min for the questionaire and 1 15 for the meeting with the dr. He filled out the paperwork while we talked and dropped it in the mailbox as I walked out.

My experience was the same as SuzyB. My psych wanted to make sure I was doing this for myself and not because someone was pressuring me, and that I could handle the post-op diet requirements. And I took the MMPI test, the answers to which showed me as an insecure doormat (but I passed anyway.).

Don't be nervous, show your confidence. Show you know what you are doing. You'll do fine!

ok, true false questions are fine, I can do paper work. lol. what did the Doc have to say for an hour and fifteen minutes? was it more questions about hurting yourself or what? sorry I have so many questions I just know what im getting into and I feel ready for it. right now I don't feel scared or worried about the surgery or the after math at home. I know things will be different, a lot different...eating and drinking and my whole life will change but I look at as a good thing. I have a lot of support, I am separated from my husband but we are doing marriage counseling and still in love so he has taken me to my appointments and will be there for surgery and after. my kids are happy for me and they know things will change as well. only my closest friends know about me doing this and they are supportive too. this physc evel just makes me nervous knowing they could turn me down if I say the wrong thing or they since ive got issues I guess.

Wow mine was for about 45 minutes

I was able to pick my own psychiatrist. Basic questions about me knowing the dangers, if I've ever been depressed or under therapy before. I lied. And passed. Lol. Don't worry about that evaluation. You'll do fine. It's really easy. Keep your eyes on the doctor and never look down when answering questions. Never let them know you're intimidated.

It is pretty much why do you want the procedure and what have you done before in regards to weight loss. They will ask the standard questions too like are you depressed, do you have any substance abuse issues, does anyone in your family etc. They just need to make sure you are in the right frame of mind. Just because you are going through a divorce and have normal feelings surrounding that, they are not going to fail you.

Mine was also about 2 hours - questions about my history and a lot of tests. My psych said that she has never said "No - never" to anybody as far as their surgery goes, but she has suggested that people slow down until they resolve some issues. The way I see it is that even though I want the surgery - like RIGHT NOW, if the psych finds something that causes her concern regarding my readiness for surgery, that I should trust her professional judgement. I don't know the results yet - I have a follow up appt on Aug 22nd where I get to go over the entire psych evaluation with her. She said it will be about 7 pages long.

she didn't give me results or tell me that I needed to wait because of any reason. So, Im taking that as maybe a sign that all went well! I hope. lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
