Recommended Posts

Hi guys..I am a little over 2 weeks out and at the soft mushy pureed stage...heres my question: Right now Im getting in a few teaspoons and Im completely stuffed even if I eat slow and chew chew chew...in time will this go away? I mean will I be able to consume a little more that a few teaspoons? Getting nervous about nutrition and dehydration. Thanks guys!

yes you will. A "meal" will be about 6 to 8 oz after everything is stable. Remember the "rules"... no liquid with meals, Protein first, and smile (well that last one is more a guideline).

I am about 10 weeks out and I can drink normallt, and eat in the 5-6 oz range...

Enjoy it while it lasts you're in the very active weight loss portion of your journey. In time like the previous poster mentioned you will eat more.

Yes you will be fine. I had the same thoughts. Every day I saw improvement. But don't be discouraged if you don't see it everyday. I am 9 months out and can drink plenty and eat just enough. I'm glad I did this it was the best decision I have ever made stay positive. It will become the new you !

Once your swelling goes down you will be able to eat more. I am, most days, up to 6-8 ozs each meal.

Funny, I thought the same thing when I couldn't eat squat. Now that I can eat considerably more (about 8 oz), I am thankful for those early meals that were very, very small. It gives our stomach rest and recovery and jump starts our weight loss journey. You'll eat more in time, but nothing (thank goodness) like before.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
