I made a great ground turkey, and teriyaki marinade. I think the marinade can be any teriyaki, the one I bought had pineapplejuice in it too. It was great, my daughter actually had it rolled in lettuce leaves and added chow main hard noodles for crunch.

How about a white chili? White ground chicken or turkey, some cannellini Beans, whole bag of baby spinach or bunch of cut up swiss chard, onion and garlic, and some cumin and other spices all in low sodium chicken broth. I would double the meat and only use 1 can of cannellini beans. This is super yummy!

It is!! I used to put frozen corn in it also, but who needs the extra carbs now? This is one of my daughter's favorites because it is so satisfying, yet so healthy.

BBQ Turkey Meatballs

Ingredients

  • 1- 1.5 pounds ground turkey
  • ½ cup onion, very finely minced
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • ¾ cup BBQ Sauce, divided
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 375. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (not totally required but makes for much easier cleanup!).
  2. In a large bowl, using your hands, mix together all the ingredients except the BBQ sauce and oil.
  3. Mix in 3-4 tablespoons of the BBQ sauce; enough to help it bind and add flavor. If you feel like your mixture is too moist add more breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat the oil in the skillet.
  5. Roll the turkey mixture into 1½ inch balls and drop into the heated skillet in batches (I cook about 8 at a time) Roll them around after a minute so they brown relatively evenly. Remove the browned meatballs to the prepared baking sheet and repeat until they are all browned.
  6. Spoon the remaining BBQ sauce over each meatball and bake for 15-20 minutes, until they are cooked through.
  7. Serve with more BBQ sauce if you’re feeling saucy.

Notes

I usually get about 36 meatballs from this recipe.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
