Hi all, I have love reading all your posts as I explore VSG they have been super helpful and very inspirational! I have attended the seminar and made my first appt. They said the first appt is 4 hours long. What should I expect at this appt? Is there anything I should bring or have prepared?

I'm going thru Lahey in Burlington, Ma. Anyone else have experience from here?

Welcome.. the first step is always the hardest. I don't have expierence from there but I know that in my first appointment we went over and recorded all of my weight loss attempts, family history, my health history. And then just pretty much discussed all of my options. Hope all goes well for you!

Well as far as what to expect....it's hard to say because every program is different. My surgeon has a comprehensive program, and I was required over the course of my preparations to meet with their nutritionist, their exercise specialist, my primary care physician, a psychiatrist, and the surgeon himself. It could be that they're having you do a lot of that at the same time if it's going to be 4 hours. Probably they'll get your medical history, your dieting history, and do some preliminary testing to assess if the surgery is appropriate for you. They will certainly weight you and measure your height to determine your BMI. My surgeon poked around on my abdomen.

As far as what to bring or have prepared -- I would call their office and ask them if there's anything, then you'll know for sure. At that time they will probably enlighten you as to what the appointment will entail. It's a good idea for you to take your own written list of questions too. If I don't do that I always get "dr's office amnesia" and forget to ask all the questions I had! :)

And then, I highly recommend camping out here on VST :) By the time I had my surgery, nothing that happened was a surprise because I had read it all here.

Best of luck to you!!

Hi Im from MI not sure what they do in MA. but here we had a 3 hour class on what to expect with our surgeries and our diet , pain mgmt , we all recieved a booklet telling us what to do every week after surgery and gave us all our scripts. it was a very informative class..My surgey was done May 6th 2013 and for me it wasnt a bad experience at all, very minimal pain started out weighing 275 and am 229 now. I am eating regular food some things agree with me better than others,

but all in all I havent been doing too bad..If you have any other questions feel free to ask..

Vikyms, that's great! That's a lot for only 3 months out. You must be so excited! My first appt is Sept 13 and I'm so excited at the idea of the opportunity!! I've been overweight all my life and tho I diet and exercise...I lose 25lbs and end up gaining that and more back. So frustrating. I currently have been on weight watchers and working out with a trainer and I've been stalled at 23lbs..... I have changed my lifestyle in all ways so I'm feeling very encouraged that the sleeve will be the last tool I need to add to my lifestyle. I know it won't be easy, but hearing its worth it from so many :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
