Hello! Not sure what to say. I'm in my 50's. My date for surgery is Sept.3 rd 2013. Have done everything before last April, put offsergery because I have gramdchildren everyday. Thought it would be better to have surgery after school started. I have always had weight problems. Never a skinny person. Took a year to make up my mind to do this.My weight when I started this was 285 am not 237. I hope to lose 100 more, after and keep it off. I know it is not easy. I have dieted off and on my whole life. Am ready to stop going up & down. My pcp is realy exiceted I'm doing this, not my family. They keep telling me I don't need to do this. There not the one wearing 3x clothes. that are to long and dont fit the way I would like them to. I live in south Mississippi. I'm having surgery in Slidell La. Dr French is doing surgery. Realy looking forward to this. I'm sure I will have questions.

Hello Patty, Thank you. most of my Family dose not know. When I spoke to a few about the surgery I got bad response that is one reason it took me a year just to decide to have it done. Once I decided to have it done everything the dr wanted done was done in 60 days. There are some that I will be in hospital over night for a test that I also have done. I'm glad I found this group.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
