Body Contouring after weightloss

Recommended Posts

I've lost 155 lbs in a year and have alot of saggy skin. I went to the plastic surgeon in my town yesterday for a consultation. Just for the belt stomach area and hospital cost is $11,100. To do the arms and inner thighs later is the sames price to have them done together. I've been pretty depressed and down since. My insurance will cover only the "overhang" on the belly below the belly button. Which would still look horrible. I've been to two banks for loans and my only option is to put up my truck that was just paid for this past year or take out a second mortgage on my home. I could use some ideas. I did schedule the surgery for the middle of December so to hold my spot. Does anyone know how much it is to go to Mexico to do this and does that price include the hospital? How much is airlines, hotels and things like that I would need? I'm at a lose. I thought I was so close to done and now I feel I will never be completely done / complete with my body and life.

IF you google Medical Tourism they show many services that are easy to navigate for both mexico and western europe (belgium, netherlands, and recently Poland, czech republic. the prices i have seen appear to be half of what you have found for what appears to be top western style medicine including the trip. Go early and enjoy a mini-vacation.

BTW there is a great article on the NYT about a man who went to belgium for a hip replacement and describes top service and great results he paid 20% of what it would cost here. IT was last weeks article and should not be hard to find.

if I am as lucky as you and my hard work pays off and need abdominal plasty i expect to look into a trip to europe.

I am planning to go to Mexico to Dr Sauceda.< /p>

This link has some rough idea of prices, but when you combine procedures it saves more. the best way is to get a quote, but it is roughly half to 1/3of the cost of US typical prices based on my experiences.

Here is more info from patients, but there is also a FB page you can search for:

I am not quite there yet but I too am worrying about how to pay for surgery... I am sooo scared to go out of the country for this because of the " what if something happens" syndrom... I want to get my stomach done, boobs and maybe my arms, I started at 338 and now down to 223 11 months out so I stilll have more to go...

does the doctor take care credit? I used that to finance my WLS surgery,.. that could help with some of the cost?

I am keeping anti-fungals and yeast creams on my medical record to establish that infections and rashes from excess skin need to be addressed medically. Hopefully, when I get to the point of no return, the skin removal will be deemed medically necessary and thereby covered under my Federal BC/BS. Just a thought. Good luck and hope this helps in some small way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
