nursehr80 18 Posted August 13, 2013 Any ideas on how long it takes for your scars to fully disappear? I have been using Mederma for 8 weeks straight and I notice improvement - but it is slow going. Will they ever turn white or go away?
TES 858 Posted August 13, 2013 I don't think they ever go away completely, but at over 6 months post op, mine have faded by about 50 percent. I use Mederma very rarely--just always forget or don't want to get it on my clothes. 2 nursehr80 and TwinsMama reacted to this
Macy6 356 Posted August 13, 2013 I am 7 years post op from having my gall bladder removed and my scars are quite faded, pretty much the color of the rest of my skin and I would guess someone who didn't know, wouldn't really realize what they were. They are far from completely gone though. 1 nursehr80 reacted to this
RebecaSparkles 247 Posted August 13, 2013 If you can try not to get any sun on the scars for the first year it'll help a lot w/ the color of the scars. I work w/surgeons & its their little hint. The scar silicone sheets can help if your scar is raised. Mederma helps w/ pigmentation. Also just the act of rubbing the area helps w/ healing. So lotion , vit e doesnt significantly matter the vigiorous rubbing helps oxygenate the skin, the blood flow increases there as a result & warmth from hands& friction helps too. allons-y 4 Macy6, MMXIII, North_Chicky and 1 other reacted to this

MMXIII 12 Posted August 16, 2013 I am wondering how long after surgery should be a good time to start treating the scars (mederma/silicone sheets) ... any ideas??
gamergirl 4,610 Posted August 16, 2013 I am wondering how long after surgery should be a good time to start treating the scars (mederma/silicone sheets) ... any ideas?? We were told not to put anything on there for a month after surgery 1 TwinsMama reacted to this
TwinsMama 483 Posted August 16, 2013 We were told a month or until they were healed (completely). Also coconut oil is good for scars. I used that after my c-section and you can't see my scars (7 years ago) at all. 1 MMXIII reacted to this
Ms.AntiBand 2,984 Posted August 16, 2013 My stomach is what my husband and I refer to as the mine field from the gazillion lap surgeries I've had. The ones from years ago are hardly noticeable and the others are fading too. 1 MMXIII reacted to this
