MizzouGirl 148 Posted August 13, 2013 During my pre-op NUT classes, we often talked about "mindful eating". So far, I've been very good about this until tonight. I violated all of the rules and I paid for it dearly. So, here's what happened.... I decided to cook tacos for dinner --- healthy tacos. I used bib lettuce for the shells and super lean ground sirloin with a variety of veggies (and a little cheese of course) for toppers. My husband was late coming home from work so I was pretty hungry by the time we were ready to eat. I filled up my lettuce leaf with all the goodies and settled in front of the TV (major violation of mindful eating) with my DH to watch last night's episode of True Blood. I was so hungry and so into the show that I pretty much inhaled my taco. OMG my tummy and chest hurt bad for the next 2ish hours. I didn't throw up but the pain was sooooo bad. I totally forgot I had had the surgery and just ate the way I used to eat. My taco was obviously too big and I ate it way too fast. NEVER AGAIN!
aliekat55 157 Posted August 13, 2013 It takes alot of focus and energy to eat properly. I can eat little bits easily and then one big bite and swallow and i am paying the price. I hope it becomes more automatic wth time.
Momonanomo 534 Posted August 13, 2013 oooh ouch. Been there. Once. And hope to never do it again. I feel your pain! This is some serious behavior modification we've signed up for, isn't it?! On a different note....your healthy tacos sound really yummy ! 2 tbrown9 and MizzouGirl reacted to this
becogolfer 68 Posted August 13, 2013 Been there but as time passes I am much better about not too much or too fast. Hang in there. I still eat while watching tv and have made it work for me. In a 1/2 hour show i eat and try to make it last the whole show. When i eat at the table it can be boring and i get tempted to eat more quickly. Whatever works but those underlying principles remain. Best wishes. 1 MizzouGirl reacted to this
Dickens22 62 Posted August 13, 2013 That's one of my biggest fears that I would forget and take too big of a bite, not chewing properly! It's probably one really big reason I'll hold off on alcohol....potential for forgetfulness and hunger. Bad combination. As I have been feeling more normal it is easier to forget about "mindful eating". Thanks fot the reminder! 1 MizzouGirl reacted to this
aumum 41 Posted August 13, 2013 That sounds awful I'm still in post op liquid stage but I will be sure to keep stories like your in mind when I try to eat again. Your tacos do sound like a great idea! 1 MizzouGirl reacted to this
LifetimeLoser 208 Posted August 13, 2013 Mindful eating is definitely not easy. There are so many distractions, even hunger after waiting for so long. 1 MizzouGirl reacted to this
