Hi there, passing through trying to research lapban !

I live in Arizona right now, lived in Toronto all my life and its hard for me trying to find a dr to contact while I'm over here.

Perhaps some of you have suggestions on drs? All and any are welcome and very much appreciated!

Also-how long was the wait time to get approved? If there is an approval time? I've read many weight requirements but I'm not sure which is right.

I've recently gained alot of weight and I am very very very very unhappy.

Looking back at old pictures and how I used to be simply destroys me [i weighed 119 most of my life] and now I feel like I'm sinking soon to drown.

I'm really hoping that lap ban can help me!

I feel like I've tried everything. And it only seems like i"m getting worse.

[word to the wise- if LipoDissolve comes to Canada if it already isn't DON'T DO IT. Its expensive and has left me with stretch marks in which I never had. Also its very painful.]

After reading some of the other posts everyone here seems to be really friendly and helpful and thats really cool to see :huggie:

thanks!

Welcome Emmily!!

I'm not sure what your exact situation is, but I know in Canada, except for Alberta, Lap-Band is not covered, it is self-pay. I do know there are some insurance company's is the US that cover it, but I do not know them, you should try the main forum, you'll get way more info for that.

All I can tell you is that Lap-Band was the best thing I have ever done. I wish I could have done it years ago. Personally, I have no side-effects, it been a wonderful and exciting journey. Like everything it has it's ups and downs, but the nice thing is that it's always there working for you. It's been marvelous!!!

Good Luck to you, come visit us anytime, or with more questions!!

Hey Emmily,

Are you wanting to get banded in Canada? It would probably be cheaper than having it done in the US, assuming your insurance (because I guess you have american insurance, which may cover it.) wouldn't cover it.

How much are you lookin to lose? Or how much do you need to lose?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
