NO BLOOD (transfusion) SURGERY

Recommended Posts

Has anyone filled out any paperwork In MX Florence Hospital regarding NO BLOOD POLICY? No need to comment if you haven't. I asked Alma at Ready4Achange if they have this type of paperwork and she said yes. Just wondering if anyone has ACTUALLY filled it out.

Yea. Patients have rights to whatever you don't want to happened in case of an emergency so just let your surgeon team know a head of time. It has nothing to do with insurance. It's similar to if you had an allergy to certain meds or products. But discuss that ahead of time.

Good luck

Certain faiths do not permit the receipt of blood transfusions - Jehovah's Witnesses for example. Guess its all about that.

JeansBeans: I also am going to have bloodless surgery on the 28th of this month. I told my Dr my wishes and we discussed this a couple of times. He asked my hubby about it and since he is not of the same faith he said he feels like if the need was to come up I should have it. He is NOT my power of attorney. My son is because he will honor my wishes as they are his also. I will be filling out some papers for the hospital I am sure. I am in Wisconsin. Hang in there and stand your ground. My dr said he wasn't even worried about the surgery itself as ppl don't bleed that much but he was worried about getting an ulcer later on and bleeding to death. I am getting the sleeve now as medicare approved it now. So problem solved. :)

There was never even a question about blood before or after my surgery.....The surgeon said that they cannot ask your faith.....I talked to him before and he waved me on and said that is not an issue here...Don't even think about it...

So I didn't! :) I'm 10 months out now and working it.....All the best ladies!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
