What makes you "dump"?

Recommended Posts

Curious to know, I know everyone is different.... Some people can tolerate certain foods more than others.. I'm 7 days post op, so I'd like to see what I'm in for.. :)

Today it was crab. But I'm also not able to do lactose post-op so that sucks too.

I am thankful that nothing has made me sick. Granted I haven't eaten large amounts of everything, but I have had bread, sugar... You name it and it didn't effect me. All people are different.

High fat stuff like a ham I got once from Patties Eggnest sent me into an hour of dumping. I never did that again and from then on shunned anything remotely suspected of bad fat. This was real ham, not the turkey, chicken or other healthier versions of "ham." It caused toilet issues, dizziness, echoing voices, etc, all after like two small bites. I think I ate this at about 6 or 7 weeks post op. I have small amounts of sugar as it is ingredient in my Protein Shake, Protein Bars, energy squares, etc. healthy foods of 2 grams or so max of sugar. This amount of sugar has never caused dumping if my experience with ham was truly a dumping experience.

I was around 8 weeks post op and I ate three teaspoons of banana pudding.< /p>

I started sweating and got sick. Thought I was gonna puke outta my nose as well.

I guess it was so rich that I cannot handle that. It was enough to make me stay away from anything like that. BTW it will hit ya quick

I've had 2 experiences of "dumping", once when I ate a banana and once when I had 2 glasses of wine.

I was bad last night after I left work late, was hungry and went to McDonalds. I got the chicken nuggets, ate them on my way home (15 min drive). Pulled in the driveway and had to run to the bathroom. Never having chicken nuggets from McDonald's again.

At least you were home. Good thing it wasn't on the way to an event or something.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
