Emotional Eating

Recommended Posts

Saturday morning I awoke to the news that my grandfather had a brain hemorrhage and isn't strong enough for surgery. He was sent home with hospice to be kept comfortable until his passing. He passed last night at 7 pm. This man was invincible. He suvived his ship being bombed in WWII, a heart attack, and a few strokes. He's always bounced back.

He's survived by 6 children, 14 grandchildren, and 9 great grand children. It's hard to believe the leader of the pack is gone. A huge loss for my family.

I've been struggling greatly with emotional eating. Like almost 2000 calories both Saturday and Sunday. I never realized I had emotional eating problems until now. I need help, advice, comfort ....anything. I have so much to do to prepare for the funeral. All I want to do is lay here.

Nicole,

I am so sorry for your loss.. He sounds like he was a great man. I know that losing someone that has always been the strong presence in our lives is devastating. My grandparents were my everything. I never thought I would survive the day of losing my Nana & Vovô.

We are going to have days like this, and sometimes we will turn to a comfort that's not the best for us (food) you are human and hurting.

Forgive your eating the last two days. But know that it was a temporary misstep and it will not fill the hole left. Only time and healing will do that.

Try to be ok with your grief, know that it is a healthy thing to feel and you do not need food to dull it.

Once again I am so sorry,

Laura

I'm so very sorry for your loss of the family patriarch. It sounds like he had a great run, was much-loved, and that he will be very, very missed. I know you are overwhelmed and have a lot to do, but the only things I can think of that might help are to try some hot tea and make sure you get in plenty of Water, because it's hard to overeat when you are drinking enough. And maybe some physical activity will help you feel better emotionally, even if you only have time for a short walk. Take good care. Hope the coming days are filled with the love of family and sharing of some wonderful memories.

With heartfelt sympathy,

-TES

Thank you, Laura, TES, and Richard. Today was better. I got most of what I needed to do done. I leave for Dallas tomorrow. It's been hard dealing with this alone since I live in a different city.

My condolences Nicole. I can only echo what Laura said....the desire to eat excessively is only an attempt to dull the pain. Sadly, it won't do it. It will only distract you temporarily. Focus on family and friends, a much better distraction....and healthier.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
