How soon after surgery did you come off your "lifestyle" meds?

Recommended Posts

Curious how soon after surgery you were able to give up meds for things like cholesterol' date=' high blood pressure, sugar/diabetes? My husband and I are maybe 10 days post-op (I can't keep up with the days), and already it seems as though he really shouldn't be taking his blood pressure medication because his blood pressure is too low if he does.

He's lost 20 lbs since we started and has another 60+ to go, so it seems really early for it to be making an impact. Of course we're also only able to eat 500 cals a day so not sure if that is part of what's making his pressure drop and making him light-headed. We're making all our Protein and Water requirements, just can't hit the additional calories.

On less than 500 cals, he's already walking two miles a day in the Texas heat and that worries me. So not sure how much of his lowered blood pressure is surgery related vs. lack of food related.

What was your experience? Thanks in advance for sharing. I'm a little worried about him.[/quote']

I stopped before I left hospital, they gave it (blood pressure med ) in hospital and dropped my bp too low. So doc said I didn't need it.

I have all today to work on him. We both work from home today and he doesn't read the forum so he doesn't know of my diabolical plan but I promise you' date=' there will be a call to the doctors office within the next 24 hours, one way or another :)[/quote']

Mission Accomplished! Call placed to doc to get a trained medic's opinion instead of Dr. husband self-treating.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
