Post op- not losing lbs...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone-

Just got sleeved on Aug 6th and I know I shouldn't be focusing on the scale too much right away- but I'm wondering how it's possible not to lose any lbs at this point

I'm on a clear liquid diet until Tuesday... so basically apple juice, Water, gatorade, and broth for the past few days. I know I'm not getting enough calories because of the liquids, so how am I not losing any lbs?

On the pre-op diet of full liquids, I lost at a pretty good rate (5 lbs over 7 days) so I'm a bit surprised i haven't lost any so far since I was averaging about 700 calories pre-op and now it's probably way lower.

I really wouldn't. Your body is well hydrated and in a bit of shock. If you can try to wait out until your two week check up (easier said than done) it will be a pleasant surprise.

Many people actually come out of the hospital heavier due to the IV fluids. It is definately too early for you to be worried about this. Give yourself time to heal. We all think the sleeve won't work for us or we will fail. Your sleeve will work for you, just not overnight. :)

thanks for responding- obviously i'm very excited for the sleeve to begin its work!

I've been trying to pretend that the numbers on the scale are "fake" numbers for now and the real weight will be revealed in the doc's office during my 2 week check up.

Just needed to hear from a few others to make sure I wasn't a lost cause already! :)

Are your drinks sugar free? I diluted juice 50/50 and only drank things that were SF. Good luck! It will happen.

I came out of the hospital 14 pounds higher than I went in! You are swollen and full of Fluid. I know exactly how you feel. Within 2 weeks the weight was falling off.

It will happen...quite common for people to have the fear that the sleeve won't work for them as it does other people...know it is hard to trust, but you will drive yourself nuts questioning things 24/7...follow your plan and you will be golden

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
