What should I expect with my endoscopy

Recommended Posts

I get to have a test very similar to that on Wednesday. Mine is called an esophageal motility study or manometry exam. Mine is to check for swallowing problems and check the sphincter muscles between the esophagus and stomach. I have heart burn issues so that is why this test is ordered for me. They record your swallowing Water for 10 segments. Should be a "fun time" with a ng tube and lap band and trying to swallow.

Good luck. I hope your results turn out negative for any issues.

We call that " The Michael Jackson" drug.

I think you are referring to the Propofol OD in 2009 and that Propofol is in the same set of prescription versed drugs. Did he take like some insane amount or something?

Why are you having (and other folks had) and endoscopy? They found I had a hiatial hernia by doing an upper GI. Is an endoscopy a standard procedure?

Some doc's choose to do endo over upper GI. Endoscopy actually shows a lot more. And some docs if the upper gi is abnormal the send you for an endoscopy for clear visualization.

They used propofol when I had my egd. He was taking it on a regular basis to sleep which is dangerous.

I'm glad you asked this question.. I go Tuesday to set my appt. for the scope... I think im more nervous about the scope than the Sleeve. LOL

Does anyone know after the scope if they find something will they still do your surgery. I think I have a small hernia, I know I have acid reflux... Jus wondering if there's a reason they won't do it ?? I would hate to know I've come this far and then tell me I'm sorry we found this or that and we can't do your Sleeve! Yikes!

Tc's Ready!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
