Cookie Diet

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried this one and/or seen Dr. Siegel? I think he only practices in Miami but I'm thinking of trying to see him. Have been exploring why I can't lose weight (wish I had done this before paying 15K for a band) but what can you do? This seems to be for people with thyroid issues - you eat the Cookies during the day and have one meal - I'm sure a cookie would go down and since I don't eat many solids during the day - i'm thinking it might work. Just curious what others have heard about this, if anything. I refuse to be blamed for my weight loss failure anymore - after a week of exercising 75 minutes a day of hard aerobics, taking thermogenic supplements, and eating a Protein Shake, 4 hard boiled egg whites during the day and a cup of food for dinner and I gained two pounds - I've had it! If cookies will help,, I'm in - lol

I just called his office and may be going in at the end of the month - he is only in FL and you have to see him to get the Cookies and then every two months. I only know they are specially formulated to control carbs, sugar and hunger - you eat 6 during the day and one dinner with meat (no red or pork) 6 oz and 1 cup of veges - no Creamers - just Water, crystal lite and fake sugars allowed. people lose 15 a month. it costs 250 to see him and get blood tests, 112 for the cookies and 120 for the supplements for the month.

As i've always said 'fat people will do anything' and that has always applied to me - it's really the only thing left right now that i can think of to try.

I've not done any weight training - just cardio to try to burn fat - i would stay at the gym until i burned 450 or more calories so i don't think i have built any muscle.

One of my friends did that diet, she said the Cookies were disgusting. She could only follow it for a week before she gave up. Have you talked to your doctor about your weight loss. Maybe he could shed some light. Goodluck to you and let us know how it goes.

Someone around here does a cookie diet too. I have seen fliers and ads.

I just don't see how it is anything different than any other Meal Replacement. Are they saying there is something specifically in that cookie that will make you lose weight? It just seems like you can follow that diet and use any Meal Replacement and have the same results.

HAve you had a fill? Also sometimes we need to detox our bodies so we can lose weight. Artificial sweetners DO NOT help, they hinder weight loss. Stevia a natural sweetner is better. Lots of Water...very important. If you get a fill and do a 1-2 week deetox diet...fruit and veggie jusices made at home...nothing bottled...no dairy, no wheat, no soy, no meats. no caffeine...will help cleanse your system. then you can add a few things. Many times food allergies we are not aware of can make us gain weight and also not lose it! If detoxing this way does not seem to help...give it a month or so to see...then you need to see if you have an excess of candida (yeast) in your system...that also does not allow for weigh loss and you feel very tired. For this you need to do a VERY low carb diet only about 20 carbs per day...NO starches of any kind! No sugar. Hope this helps. Why spend a ton of money when you have the band and can use it to your advantage to fast and cleanse without feeling hungry.

Mary,

I've seen Savon pharmacy stores advertise thyroid testing. Maybe there is a pharmacy there that has testing abilities. Then you would not have to pay the doctor fee to order and read the test. If your thyroid is low, it can definitely stall weight-loss. If you DO take any meds, some can mess with your weight (like anti-seizure, steroidal, & more). Could you be in an early menopause phase?

It sounds like you feel pretty good working out 75 min. But, psychologically, it has to be discouraging. I get down just from a plateau! Do you get enough sleep, and can you de-stress? I have a theory that you have to be happy to lose. (It is just a theory)

Anyway, I'm so sorry!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!

Your friend,

Boo

I wouldnt normally advertise another forum on here but I do know of a lady on another BB that is very educated on thyroid issues. Here screen name is nonstickpam and she is on the bb at www.lowcarbfriends.com . Go in there and do a search for her screen name and I bet you will find lots of good info. Also I think thyroid testing and medication would help you. I would certainly do that before paying some diet doctor a ton of money if it really isnt any different than say slim-fast. If you are pretty sure you have thyroid problems then you should definately get tested.

I would ask for a T3 test, it's a complete thyroid panel. If it is low synthroid is cheap, my mom's cost like $8 a month. When she forgot it on her cruise last year she gained 8 pounds in 7 days and slept like 14 hours a day. After 2 weeks back on the meds the weight was gone and she was back to 8 hours of sleep a day. Do you have a Quest lab near you? They do lab work without doctors orders, and you pay a set fee for it. Then you can take the lab results to a doctor and have them prescribe meds if needed. They will give you a print out of the results and what the normal spectrum is, so you will know if the levels are normal or high/low. Might be worth a try. ~Mandy

Thanks for all good advice and suggestions - i find i get a little crazy with my weight every now and then - most of the time i can stay the course etc. My new fill doc who is very concerned/supportive talked with me yesterday for some time. He said no to the cookie diet (ha) and has me on a plan to track and treat first bite syndrome, i'm getting a thryoid panel and tracking my food (AGAIN). He said we will get to the bottom of this and he is hoping I can be filled differently and make better choices be consistent etc rather than hormonal or metabolic issues which will be harder to treat.

So maybe I will have a n ew plan and a new result soon. I think I am menopausal - just getting older - saw thru reading my diaries that 6-9 mos before being banded NOthing was working either and I couldn't get any weight off - even weight watchers - nothing or gaining and all of that led me to the band so there is obviously something going on.

I have always appreciated the support/advice I get here but at the same time this seems to be the lonliest and most frustrating issue I've faced and since others have many harder battles I'll get off my pity box and get to the gym. ha -

I have a low thyroid, I am only 22 but have been heavy most of my life. I only found out I had this about 3 years ago. It has been under control ever since. I was banded on october 2nd and have lost 42 lbs so far. It has been under control ever since. The test used to diagnose this is not expensive. The medication is also unexpensive. If you don't get medication for this no matter how much you try you will not loose weight and anything you eat can make you gain weight. Instead of spending money on these Cookies which can probably compare to stuff you have tried already why dont you visit the doctor? You sound determined and disciplined. I think with medication and your determination and the band!! you will see great results. Wish you the best!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
