If you were not sleeved in Mexico and sent home did you get a refund?

Recommended Posts

Hello All, Some of you know, that after sending in my labs prior to going to Mexico I was cleared even though my blood count was 10.2. The day of surgery my surgeon did not preform the sleeve on me because my blood count was not the minimum of 12. I feel like doctors should put the care of their patient before anything else. My concern is that I paid extra for rooms, paid all the drivers to and from the hospital, like I would if I was talking a cab and paid my driver to cross the boarder to take me to the airport. This was supposed to be all included. My question is has anyone else been rejected and if so, did you get a refund?? I was told I was going to get a refund, but I haven't had any contact from time after call my US coordinator. I am with Mexcio Bariatric Center.

Princess, I accompanied a friend who was having surgery at Mx Bariatric Ctr about three weeks ago. There was confusion that resulted in an overcharge to the patient. When it was discovered, instead of a refund she got got a major run around and is still waiting for a refund.....waiting......waiting.... This was my fourth experience related to having surgery in TJ. I am LEAST impressed with Mexico Bariatric Center.

Princess, I just don't understand that if you sent lab work showing that your blood count was below 12, why in the world would the Dr OK you for surgery and then change her mind after you arrived. This just doesn't sound professional on her part. I do agree it's better to be safe then to have surgery with too low of a blood count, but you should have been told this before you ever left for Mexico. Then again if they keep your deposit, that's $750.00 in their pocket without having to do a thing. Something doesn't sound right about how you were treated, sort of like a bait and switch kind of thing if you ask me. They knew what your blood count was before you ever got there and you should have been told in advance not to even come. As far as I'm concerned they owe you ALL of your money back, including your deposit and I wouldn't settle for less. Mexico Bariatric Center has some explaining to do. Please don't let this go, these Mexican surgeons an coordinating companies have to be held accountable, how else will we know who we can trust. However, I must give the Dr one benefit of the doubt, maybe she never even saw your pre-lab work. Not meaning to speculate but this could the fault of MBC, there has been a lot of negative reports about them. Just sayin is all!

I'm sorry this is happening to you!

I'm in Tijuana now and it was explained to me that if they found any reason that I could not go through surgery they would hand my check back over to me and send me on my way.

Here lately I have heard so many negative reviews on Mexico Bariatric and their coordinators. Of course I didn't use them so... I would just be cautious using this company. I kind of feel that if the doctor knew you had a low blood count before the surgery and allowed you to go on to TJ, then told you they couldn't do the surgery. That's not your fault. I think you should be entitled to some money back.

Thank you all for the comments. I will keep you posted. I pray all goes well with your surgery and with my situation.

I think things will get better. I didn't know there was a minimum blood level, becausr i would have never went until my blood count met the requirements. I have learned something and that is never pay everthing until you are there. :)

Be safe in your travels and be Blessed.

I had a revision from lap band to sleeve and went through mexico Bariatric and my coordinator was Cindy Rios R.N. My surgery date was 7/24 at MI Doctor. I had excellent service and everyone was super nice. I have no complaints and would choose the same people again tomorrow. My Doctor was Valenzuela.< /p>

I went thru Ready4Achange and they informed I didn't pass the tests, or the Dr denied my surgery, they would also hand the money order back over to me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
