2 days post op & feeling like crap

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm 2 days post op & I feel horrible. Chest pains (assuming from anesthesia), always sleepy, lots of gas in me that won't come out! & last thing is I cannot drink anything. The pain is too much when I swallow some Water or soup... Hoping that this will go away.. I have lost 8 lbs so far since Tuesday, which I am happy about, but I am hoping that I won't regret this.... How long did this feeling last for you all? Do I have hope? What do I do about my intake, do I just not drink anything until I can? :( help please.....

From everything I've read, you need to make yourself drink something... otherwise you will get dehydrated and have to go back to the hospital.

Dehydration is the number one reason why WLS patients are admitted back into the hospital. That's what I was told.

i was feeling like you, except i could sip ok. but it got much better very quickly at the end of day number two. Not convinced that walking helped but i walked constantly despite the pain.

Day 2 sucks! I totally agree. Each day gets better and better. Honest it does. I think day 5 was the 1st day I went to run an errand. Not a big trip but really started feeling better after that. By 2 weeks out I was back at work & feeling pretty normal. Now I don't even feel I like had surgery:) Good luck with your journey!

I am 2 days post op too and I'm having the exact same thing! Everything burns going down and I'm am very gassy. I'm hoping it goes away soon. I'm afraid I'm not getting enough liquids and don't want to be dehydrated. Please keep us updated. I'll say a prayer for us. It's gotta get better.

It gets better. Have you tried gas x for the gas, they come in chewables and strips. They worked great for me. I also used a heating pad, I could feel the gas in my back and shoulder. I'd prop up on the sofa with the pad on my lower back or shoulder area for 30 mins to an hour then walk around for 30 mins then suddenly I'd pass some of the gas. Day three was a BM I swear I was over the moon!

By week two I felt more like myself. I drove the end of week two that way I could be out and about, walking helped a lot with the gas.

Since I had my surgery July 22, I'd say I'm still tender in the major incision area, but all else is fine. I sip all day long. I have a big fear of dehydration. If that means one sip every 15 mins that's what I do.

I'm down about 25 lbs, a total of 50 lbs. Loving the way my clothes fit. Enjoying the wiggle room in my jeans lol.

Hang in there, rest, sip, walk. Rest, sip, walk.

Karen

Even if you have to use a spoon to get your water down and walk walk to get your gas out!

Thank you to everyone's response. I wish I could reply all, but I don't feel enough energy yet :( everyone who said 'everyday gets better' you're right... It does, though I am still feeling down, I sipped way more then the past few days. I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel, I cannot wait until all these pains have left my body. Especially since I start work next Friday! On the bright side, I have lost 9 lbs as of today :)

I'm on day 5 and just went out today to a shoe store for an hr. Havent used any meds today. You will feel crappy for another day or so then you will feel much better. Today I was able to drink Water with no problems. When I did have problems what helped was warm broth . warm tea or warm anything. it will help heal the swelling and comforting to drink . Feel better!!

I found if I started my day with hot Decaf tea the rest of my meals and Water intake went fine for the day.

Yes, there is hope for you! It took about 10 days before I woke up not feeling like I was hit by a bus. I felt like a big baby cuz everytime I would see someone who had surgery the same day on here, they were like "had surgery yesterday and ran 22 miles this morning!". Very jealous.

Lapband surgery 4 yrs ago was a breeze compared. You MUST sip tho. Make sure you don't sip anything ice cold tho. That hurt me the first few days. Things had to be room temp.

Good luck! It will get better. I'm now 3 1/2 weeks out and feeling 100% again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
