tammyj 15 Posted January 10, 2007 Did any of you take anything to suppress your appetite to get you through the pre-op diet. I'm sure I have to ask my doctor about this, but just curious if anyone did this?
BabyGotBack 0 Posted January 11, 2007 I did take something mild that had Green T in it, but it took the edge off. Audree
tammyj 15 Posted January 11, 2007 Thanks for responding Audree. I tried a liquid diet for one day to see how I would do and I was literally shaking by the end of the day, very weak and of course hungry. I tried High Protein Boost w/ only 15g of protein so that may be why I was so weak...not enough protein. The surgery itself will give me more motivation to stick with it when my time comes, but I may take something to curb my appetite to help me through it. tammyj 15 Posted January 12, 2007 Truluv, I've never heard of tenuate, but it sounds alot like phentermine. I'll probably use the phentermine if it's okay w/ MD since I've taken it in the past. Babygotback, is Quick Slim over the counter? I may try that if the phentermine is too strong and my doc says no.

I bought it from my chinese herbalist, but you can check the site http://www.goldvitamins.com/quickslim30.htm I used them pre band and it worked better for me than any prescription appetite control pill! susannah 2 Posted January 13, 2007 Hi Tammy, I am glad you posted this thread because I am also considering taking an appetite surpressant, but I think maybe a more natural product would be the way to go. I have read that some of the prescribed products may induce panic attacks. I certainly don't want that. Good luck with it all. Susannah
tammyj 15 Posted January 13, 2007 Hi Susannah, I'm a little worried that some of them may be a little too harsh, especially the prescription pills. I'm going to talk to my doctor to see what he says before I do anything. If you know of any good natural appetite suppresants please share.
sophrosyne 0 Posted January 13, 2007 Today, I tried taking: AM: 1 5-HTP 1 One A Day Vitamin 1 CLA 1 Dexatrim Natural (with Green Tea and Caffeine only) (Made me burp nasty for a little bit - probably the CLA on an empty stomach) Lunch: 1 Dexatrim Natural (I should have had another Dexatrim Natural before dinner, but I didn't. So I wound up eating too much). Tonight before bed, I'm going to take: 1 CLA 1 5-HTP My findings? It did cut down on the hunger. And I didn't have the cravings that I normally do. However, I got an up close and personal look at how my eating is psychological, because I wasn't hungry, but I still wanted to eat. Pure habit/psychological. As a weird bonus, my mouth has been tasting sweet all day. I don't know what's causing that, or if it's the combination.
carmillejoanita 0 Posted January 13, 2007 Iam on 75 mg tenuate. My brother told me about it. He lost 30 lbs. So far it only works for 4 hours then Iam hungry again. Also heard its very addictive. Now I know the phentermine works, I lost 40 lbs in 6 months but then gained it all back. CLA is a joke to me. Right know Iam so confused. Good Luck ~Carmille
tammyj 15 Posted January 15, 2007 Hi Jack, I'm hoping I won't need anything after my surgery. I was thinking of taking something during my pre-op liquid diet.

Tammy, if you take the right amount of shakes per day (for me it was 5 Optifast shakes), the first say, 2 days will be rough--and then your appetite will calm down on its own. if you're working--your mind will be busy with work--ask your dr. if you can have any fresh or cooked, non-carb (no potatoes, corn, peas) vegetables during the day---and it's doable. believe me, i did it. i wasn't HAPPY, no way--but i did it. i didn't shake--i was irritable--but then amazingly--my appetite calmed way down. i was surprised--i thought "why could i never do this BEFORE having it required by upcoming SURGERY?" --well of course, i had done it once before, for a few MONTHS even--but--of course, in the end..gained all the weight back and more--many more years of yo-yo dieting followed---so---here i am--banded. but--the pre-op diet is doable--even without appetite suppresants. you'll do fine! i promise! -Girlin NYC
