Hate working out!

Recommended Posts

Ok. I am about 3 weeks post op. I walked 37 minutes on the treadmill today (first time I exercised) and hated every second of it. What am I going to do? Will I ever learn to love it? I start tennis lessons on 8/22 but I HATE getting sweaty and hot. Feeling sad and discouraged

What am I going to do?

The same thing tomorrow. And the day after. And the day after. You may not learn to love it but appreciate it for the investment in yourself that it is. It'll get easier. Besides, it'll get you into shape a little for those tennis lessons! ;)

Just stick with it, and youll learn to love it. I could not stand exercising before and now after 2 months of exercising regularly I am starting to feel like somethings missing if I dont do it. Buliding muscle and continuing to exercise will be key to maintaining your weight once you reach your goal. I got a trainer twice a week to encourage and be accountable. There have been plenty of days that if she wasn't going to be there waiting for me I wouldn't have gone. Now I go 5 days a week and still only meet her 2 because I see the benefits now, and it feels good.

Treadmills can be a little tedious sometimes! Walking outside at a nice park or in your neighborhood can be much more fun, especially if you have a friend with you! I've been pleasantly surprised with how many friends of mine jump at the chance to go on walks with me when I suggest I'm going on one. Maybe see if any of your friends want to set up weekly walk dates? Something about being in the fresh air is really rewarding too...and definitely a better smell than the gym! ;)

Besides that, I am not the biggest fan of exercise too, but you know what? I've been doing the Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred workout DVD every morning before work. I have made it a part of my routine...get up, do the workout, shower, make a shake, head out the door...it's just a part of my life now! Plus it's only 20 minutes and I am DRIPPING sweat when I'm done...damn that Jillian Michaels! She gets results but I hate her at the same time! ;) And I always feel great when I'm done exercising...proud of myself for doing something good for my body and my health. Keep at it and try different things, don't give up! Exercise isn't an option anymore...it's a requirement.

Good luck!

I never thought I would ever say this (EVER), but today I didn't work out, and I feel kind of bummed about it. Like I'm missing something. It kind of grows on you and into your routine. When you don't do it, you miss it. A year ago, I would have bet a million dollars I would have never said that, but I'm a new person since VSG.

I feel the same way about the eliptical machine. So, I had my hubs bring it into the bedroom and park it in front of the T.V. and I don't get bored anymore :) Can you do that with your treadmill?

I hate sweating too. It kind of creeps me out (must be something from my childhood). BUT...I find when I do a workout I enjoy I don't notice so much the sweat. I'm so focused on the fun it distracts me.

Maybe you need to try videos or a class in person. Also, there are some really great workouts that don't cause a lot of sweating but do help you get toned. Maybe check out some of them.

I thought I was the only one who hates the eliptical. Glad to know I'm not alone.

Thanks y'all. I used to work out 2 hours a day in my late twenties but its been so long and so many added lbs later that I just am hating it first time back. i took a nap after, lol! I know it will get better and I like that someone has reminded me of the requirement! I think I'm going to be a class person until I can get to a more manageable weight. I love outside but I'm in Florida and it is hoooottttttttt and humid. No excuses though!

I also find watching tv helps. When I would go to the Y, I would start the elliptical 15 minutes into one of my favorite 1 hour shows, then I would have to do it the whole 45 minutes to watch the end of the show!

Doing it at home would be hard, though, since you can get off the elliptical and still watch the end of the show.

I also am a huge fan of outdoors. I keep a small cooler in the car with partially frozen Water and then take a small gatorade with me for the walk at the closest state park.

I'm in GA so I know hot and HUMID weather! I've grown to feel really good about the sweat! :)

I used to be right there with you. I hated working out and it took me forever to get myself motivated to workout. Eventually I made a deal with myself, power through the workouts for 2 weeks and make a habit out of it. It became more natural and just part of my day. Some days I hate it and some days I love it. I also have what I like to call workout ADD. I toggle back and forth between running, gym workouts that involve weights, elliptical routines and workout video routines. I love my videos because I have lots of different videos and varying or the workouts keep me going.

When I'm doing stuff like running, treadmill or elliptical workouts good TV or music is definitely key. I concentrate less on the fact that I am working out and more on what I am listening to or watching. Most importantly you gotta find something that you will do. You may not have to love it (it certainly helps to find routines that you love) but it has to be something that you are more likely to complete and really any activity is better than no activity at all.

Once you're in a habit of it though, it really makes it easier on those days you really really don't want to do it. Today is one of those days for me, but I'm thinking after I post I'll push play on one of my workout videos!! :-)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
