stacechase 251 Posted August 7, 2013 So, the oddest thing is happening lately...I'm noticing lots of new hair "sprouts" along my hairline! I have super fine hair and I know that when the inevitable 3-month Hair loss hits after surgery, I'll likely have to rock the short hair, which is no problem. However, for the past week and a half or so, I have been going cray with lots of Protein and noticed that my nails have grown incredibly fast and I'm getting some new fuzzy little hair chutes, LOL! Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I guess I never realized how protein-deficient my diet was! This gives me hope that even though I will likely have hair loss from the surgery, maybe in the long run, now that I have to consume 60-80 gms of protein a day, that my hair will eventually be thicker than it is now! TwinsMama 483 Posted August 7, 2013 My hair grows really fast and yes, diet plays a huge roll. When I'm eating right, my hair and nails grow so fast it's not worth it to get cute cuts. Now that I'm post-op, I do notice that while my hair is growing (getting longer) it is also shedding. So, you're right to enjoy the new growth now.
superchica879 58 Posted August 7, 2013 My hair is over half gone and getting all my protien in hasn't helped the situation, my nut said yesterday that your body before the surgery is used to all types if foods and a good portion but after surgery we consume so little that the nutrients go to feed our organs that our hair suffers. I am almost 6 months out and taking bioten has helped a lot that I'm actually seeing it slow down and new hair chutes

I have no doubt that I will experience Hair loss due to surgery at some point, and I'm cool with that. Just found it weird that there seems to be new growth right now, and I feel like it has to do with all of the protein!
Momonanomo 534 Posted August 7, 2013 During my pre-op and for the first 2 months post, my nails grew like crazy! To the point that I had to actually get clippers and cut them so I could type. That's never happened in my life! I also attributed it to the revised diet with increased Protein. I've always had a ton of hair so I didn't notice any increase as far as that goes. Today marks 11 weeks since surgery, and my nail growth has slowed, but I still haven't lost any hair. HOWEVER I will not be surprised when it happens.....haven't heard from anyone yet who didn't experience it.....
