I'm a 911 dispatcher for a three county dispatch center in Northern Michigan. I've been working midnight shifts for the last 12 years and for most of my adult life. I'm curious how many others would attest that shift work throws their eating habits (and sleeping) into a spiral of chaos?

Midnights did contribute to my weight gain. There are studies out now stating lack of sleep is proven in weight gain. 15 yrs of midnights did a number to me.

Are you northern lower Michigan or northern UP Michigan??

I am a RP (Rapid Prototyping) Supervisor. I make the first of everything' date=' from pen caps to helicopter engines. The parts are literally grown layer by layer using liquid photo polymers and UV lasers. In lay-mans terms....3D printing.

I love what I do. I have the opportunity to work on something different every day.

Although, prior to this I was in the Jewelry industry for 10 years. Prior to that I was a corrections officer.

Lets just say I am diversified.[/quote']

Fascinating!! What is the most interesting device or equipment you have made with a "3d printer"? I like following the trends in 3d printing on slashdot (self professed geek here).

I am also an RN currently doing hospice. I worked in ICU at local hospital for almost seven years my over weight body just couldn't handle it any more. back pain, knee pain, foot pain you name it. why are there so many overweight nurses? Because we don't have time to take care of ourselves. work long hours, without having time to eat and if we can eat it's not always nutritious, and too tired to exercise. Don't get me wrong I love my job, it's very rewarding but enough is enough I have to get this weight off 20 years is a long time. This is my first post i've just been reading. I haven't scheduled my surgery yet but I am hoping for January. I am scared to death, but i haven't changed my mind I was hoping to do it with in next few months but i'm out of vacation time.

Lets see, right now i work in a UPS warehouse overnights. Its tough work but they gave me health insurance for 50 dollars a month which paid for my sleeve. And they are paying for my college, and i make a decent wage for a part time job.

I was unmotivated when i graduated high school so i never gave college a real shot even though i was very smart in school. I've decided its now time to do it, So I'm going for my bachelors in biology, and hopefully into a medical school to become a dr of some sort.

I've been a teacher of the deaf and a sign language interpreter for the past 8 years, as well as a college adjunct. Prior to that I had a career in non-profit management. As wonderful as my kids are, I've realized that college is a better fit for me, so I'll most likely be applying to PhD programs this year.

I have worked in Emergency Medical Services (ambulance) for the past 23 years, currently a Paramedic/Supervisor for the last 13. I am noticing more and more emergency services personnel showing up all the time here, funny most people would think we would all be healthy and fit from all the running around we have to do, of course if you haven't ever done the job you don't understand the amount of down time and pure stress of the job. I believe the stress in the medical fields are what truly lead to there being so many medical oriented folks who are overweight and therefore likely to get VSG.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
