No that is a good thing, the problem some people have drinking fast is due to the swelling in the stomach and esophagus after surgery, if you can drink fast already that means the swelling has gone down. I personally was able to drink fast early on, and am now at 8 months post op able to drink 128 oz of Water a day without problem. Remember that liquids run through the pyloric sphincter and into the intestines so are not limited by the size of your stomach. Good Luck.

great that you are able to drink so much - many people have problems drinking PO

that being said.................

my NUT told me i shouldn't "gulp" my Water for awhile (don't remember how long)

tummy is still healing

i was told to drink, sip slowly, increasing as i could - but not to gulp

being able to drink so much in such a little time???

i would slow down

thats just per my experience and from what MY NUT told me

all NUTS say different things (thats why their so nutty!! )

take care

continued speedy recovery

good luck

kathy

I believe the problem with gulping is supposed to be the amount of air that tends to be brought in when you gulp. So I should have said that it is a good thing if you are able to drink fast without gulping, I believe if you are gulping and getting to much air in you will feel it pretty quickly but you should definitely be cognizant of it.

I think not gulping is really good advice. At 12 weeks i still have discomfort if i take too much in one swallow.

I'm just 3 weeks out, if I gulp anything it hurts! I get to much air and my stomach lets me know it. I personally like the camelback bottles with the attached spout I'd guess you call it. Someone from this site recommended that I try it. I can now get anywhere from 64 -96oz in a day. (32oz bottle)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
