I would like to know if any sleeved ladies went through perimenopause after surgery, I am 50 years old, I was sleeved in May 2012 I have lost 80 pounds I have about 25 pounds to my goal and thats it I have been stalled for many months. I started bleeding in December, I had several tests and biopsies which all were normal and I was told by my OB/GYN that I was perimenopausal and that it would be impossible for me to lose any more weight due to my metabolism being so low ans that I should just try to maintain where I am now, I was also put on HRT, which also slows weight loss down, I am switching to lose dose birth control which may or may not help. I would love any feedback I am trying not get frustrated I excercise and eat very small amounts of course, but I am so afraid that I am going to gain weight back. :)

Tina, I just turned 49 & have been perimenopausal for about a year. My periods got out of control & unpredictable, so I had a Mirena IUD put in & that helped a LOT. I was sleeved on June 19 & I'm doing really well. I have no idea when full-blown menopause will start, but I hope I can lose all the weight I need to before then. If your peri is just beginning, do you think that your stall may just be hormonal & the weight will start up again at some point? The word "impossible" seems like a big leap to make, but then I'm not a doctor. Good luck!

I am 52 and I am going through this as well. I can't believe they told you you couldn't lose anymore weight because of this. There are woman on here who are completely done and through menoupause that are losing weight. Have you tried the pouch diet or just gone straight back to liquids for maybe a week to detox from the carbs. Then you can start back with lean meat and veggies and very little carbs? Just a suggestion! I hope it all works out for you!! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
