Any early 2012 Sleevers still here?

Recommended Posts

Did you have your sleeve early 2012? How are you feeling? How much have you lost? Any regrets? I was sleeved February 2012 and hit a plateau after losing 50 pounds in 6 months. I recently gained 10 back but have lost 5 of it in the last 2 weeks. My hunger is back so my surgeon prescribed phentermine. I took it before surgery with no problem. Now I can only take half every other day otherwise I'm too jittery. The size of my meals have increased. I'm still not eating as much as I did before surgery, but definitely more than I did the first year. Still can't drink cokes or carbonated drinks really, but don't want them either :) Red wine still burns as well as fruit juices. A small glass of white wine is ok. Still can't tolerate milk or a more than a kid size potion of ice cream, but I do eat and love my fair share of cheese. I didn't have any dairy intolerance prior to surgery. I can tolerate some beers, but try to limit them. I did lose about half of my hair within the first year, good thing I had a ton to begin with. I'd like to lose another 50 pounds at least, so my doctor told me to reset my body by doing the pre-op diet for 10 days and take it from there.

I had my surgery in late Jan 2012. Hit goal about a year later, losing 135 pounds. Due to stress/illness, I dropped 10 pounds past goal. But now I'm maintaining just below goal (between 127-129) most days.

I noticed a HUGE increase in what I could eat a few months ago. I still can't touch nearly the portions I used to eat prior to surgery, but my volume has easily doubled or tripled. I have to be very vigilant to avoid the treats and slider foods, grazing during the day. Those will easily bump up my carbs beyond 100-150g per day and calories into the 1500 range!

I don't drink soda, happy to give it up. But I do enjoy coffee a couple of times a week, have to watch the sugar content. I only have a glass of wine every month or so for social occasions, never a big alcohol drinker.

I'm resetting myself these past few weeks because I just FELT better when I ate a clean diet. I sleep better, think better and just want to get back to that. So I started back up with my trainer at the gym, she is kicking my butt. Drinking Water like crazy, Protein first, watching the carbs and cutting out sugar! You can do it, just remember what you went through to get this far, the pain, the recovery, the cost!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
