wasting a lot of food, disinterested in food, extremely active where it starts to affect multiple relationships, you might lose some old friends and gain some new ones, body odor, fatigue

Yes yes yes! You hit the nail on the head with the disinterest in food. It is really hard to stay motivated when you hate to eat. I'm almost scared sometimes due to my inability to know what will throw me into a violent vomit fest.

1. Cost of exercise: gym or recreation center, personal trainer, workout clothes/shoes, workout equipment. Of course, you can get around these by seeking out relatively cheap gear and workout options. 2. Lack of attention to exercise component of the program.

being diagnosed with some other life threatening disease/disorder brought to light because of so many pre-op tests or because of becoming accutely self-aware of how your body is functioning (mine is cancer, and because of the latter reason).

(((Spatters)))- I can definitely relate to your post, I am so very sorry!

Possible plastic surgery to remove excess skin. For me, the confidence I've gained since I lost weight has been so worth it. I'd take the risk all over again to be where I am at today.

I second the sharts! Directly out of surgery you're begging to fart & Can't trust a fart the first couple of weeks. I ended up with almost pneumonia right after surgery as well. I was a smoker prior to surgery though. Was down to 2-3 cigs a day but I still paid dearly for it. Fever & coughing so bad I was peeing myself. Doesn't feel good to cough with a tender tummy.

trying to tally up the worst case scenarios

bettyboo

you obviously have done your "homework"

read alot from the board - maybe a book too!!!!

hearing about such things as being a little sick, gas, drinking problems et al

good for you that you don't want to only see through those pretty "rose colored glasses"

some people go into surgery without much/any knowledge

kudos on reading and learning in order to deal with the wonderful sleeve :)

being all prepped up for WLS :)

have you already gone through all your pre-op tests, have a date already???

or i you strongly considering the sleeve - and wanting more info???

hope to see you around the neighborhood :)

good luck

kathy

I also wanted to add the risk of needing your gallbladder removed- I am going tomorrow morning for an ultrasound because my doctor thinks I might have gallstones due to my rapid weight loss.

So very true. I had to get used to that. I was embarassed when I was in a meeting and there was a pause and my tummy made noises. I sooo wanted to fall through the floor.

Good thing the guy next to me said he was so hungry...everyone assumed it was him. I think he was just being kind (new guy on the team). Bless his heart!

I am on Ursodiol for 4 months to prevent this. I imagine some people do the same but may still need their gallbladder removed.

I'm glad to hear about the tummy noises.

I had the same thing when I was on a liquid diet for 3 months! Our stomachs can be really loud!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
