My surgeon absolutely insists that a huge key to all of this is NOT getting on the scale. That part of the changes he supports is not dieting, but life long. And that weighing oneself- is a dieting mindset that needs to be broken. That focusing on what you are doing everyday, the Water drinking, exercise, Protein, that doing this will take the weight off and to not focus on the numbers. I totally agree with him, remembering the times when I would weigh myself and have a false sense of security with it. That being said, I struggle with not weighing daily!

Surgeon is a gem. I was his last patient, he retired on Aug 1st. He hated retiring, says this was the best job anyone could have ever had, that he has totally loved every minute of it. I am glad to have had him and his support!

Thank you fixerupper. Your words are so helpful. For you guys that want to be jerks, yes I've read the gazillion posts but as fixerupper said I needed some individual confirmation. If you don't like my post then don't reply and or go somewhere else. This is suppose to be a SUPPORT site.

You're welcome. I have two suggestions:

1. Start a closed or private Facebook group for people who were sleeved the same month as you. Most of our group still comes here to get wisdom from the vets and to share our experience with people newer than ourselves (we're still pretty new too :). But, my FB group is a lifesaver. Often we hit stalls at the same time, emotional issues, etc... or someone a week or two before me can say "Hey my stall just broke finally!" It is so helpful to have a group at a similar stage and they will become some of your closest friends.

2. Chart your weight loss through fatsecret or some other website or app. I know now that I only lose weight every other week at the most. If I lose 3-5 pounds one week then I will almost certainly not lose the following week and may even bounce back up as much as two pounds but I can see from that chart that my weight will continue to go down if I am on program. Seeing this pattern gives me great comfort those weeks that nothing comes off because I know I just need to hang on for a bit and not give up.

Hope this is helpful. hang in there!

Well I think the stall is over. Keeping my fingers crossed. I dropped two pounds over the past 2 days. Lets see if it keeps up. Yeah!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
